I drive an enormous Ram 2500 Power Wagon and it's getting to be a bit much moving around my smallish beach town. I mostly park it 3 miles away at the a ferry and commute to NY, take it to MetLife to tailgate and recently did a 4k road trip to my place in FL and back. The trip really exposed the the truck is rough to drive on long highway runs. It has a giant Hemi and 4.10 gears so 85 MPH is 2500 RPMs which is significant and it cost me about a grand in gas. I enjoy it but when my kids come to visit it's a bit much for them to get around in.

I really like electric vehicles, it's odd, they're so much more enjoyable. I have. Porsche Taycan 4s (wife's car) and bought my son a Tesla Model Y PUP. I'd get one myself but they're tough to get and I've been drawn to the Mach-E for some reason. And, nostalgically, my first new car after graduating college was an 88 Mustang GT in deep regatta blue metallic. Not quite grabber blue but not far off either.

Thanks for bearing with the background if you've made it this far. I have an opportunity to get a grabber blue GTPE with co pilot for MSRP but have to pay them to PPF and ceramic coat it, which I'd have done anyway so not a big deal. The trade value on my PU is ridiculous so that's not an issue.

My question is can this be a practical everyday driver? I'd also love to do some electric road trip in it given the CUV style I can pack some travel gear in it. How are you owners enjoying this? In other words I got one shot to get this right or my wife may become a bit annoyed. The other vehicle I am looking at is a Bronco, but I'm drawn to the electric world.

Thanks in advance for any insights, advice, jeers, cheers or whatever.

TL;DR Should I buy a GTPE or not?

thanks all,
Rob

Yes, it's practical as an every day driver. I'm putting on a set of 3rd party wheels and snow tires tomorrow to deal with winter here in Colorado. I've only had my GT PE for a week and the daily drive is great. Still learning 1 pedal driving, but that is coming along great. Plus, I've got the go pedal on the right when I need to get past somebody.

No regrets other than the long, long delay from Ford and the problematic FordPass app.

For what you’re trying to do, you’ll very likely love it.

We’ve only had ours a couple weeks. And I can confirm great daily driver.

we don’t drive often, but when we do it’s awesome around town. Easy to park, handles the highways great. The blue cruise is hard to get used too. I am a “driver” not a passenger. So, letting go of control is anxiety inducing.

The suspension on the PE is much better than the non-PE. I remember driving a non-PE a while back and I could feel the weight of the car. There’s complaints of it being bouncy, and I could imagine it.

But the PE is great, handles it’s weight without issue.

Unless you need something for off-road, go for the GTPE. Have had mine for 3 months, and no complaints, driving it almost daily as a commuter car until the snow hits (I have a Volvo tank for that, so didn't bother getting all-season or snow tires for the GTPE). Only issue I've had is malfunctioning tire pressure sensor. You already know what the non-Tesla EV infrastructure is from the Taycan, so won't be any surprises. Plenty of planning tools out there or use the pretty decent one built-in by Ford. Truly a fun and comfortable all-around performance car, with plenty of space for trips, unless you have an over-packer in the family.
My only recommendation is read up on the "5 second max boost/trap speed" that some complain about on here, but if you're not planning on taking it to the drag strip or autocrossing it you won't ever be disappointed.
And yes, the coating is worth it, as some have complained that these are stone chip magnets on the highway.

I have had my GT-PE for 2 weeks and 3 days. Great commuter car if you can keep your foot out of the throttle. ??

I'm honestly surprised how well the GTPE rides and how comfortable it is to sit in. To be honest, and I don't know why I dont' remember from when I test drove a Select many moons ago, the car is smaller than I originally thought but it still has plenty of room for road trips, etc.

I'm finding the back seats are tough for taller people like myself to get in and out of, but once in, the seat bucket is deep enough where long legs fit... its the act of getting in and out that poses issues.

Aside from that, the car is an absolute blast to drive. It's very confident in the turns (I even kicked the tail out on a freeway exit ramp this morning and kind of scared myself a little), it's very quick and very smile inducing

I prefer the PE to the non-PE really because of the suspension.

To jump on what everyone else has said, I use mine for a 50 mile daily commute and I switched from a 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500. The amount of money I save on gas and the extra fun I have making time on back roads is so worth it.
