It looks like a "P" broadcasting to a long railroad track, or someone who's on a ladder cleaning the gutters again. I guess if you turn it off when the gutters are clean.

I like my set-ups so I don't dare touch it. What is this mystery hieroglyph for?

Yea, that is what it looks like. It should look like the front end of a car, give a hint that it's the sensor for parallel parking.

BINGO! That's why we need it AND why it's on the backup camera screen.

Correct. However, hitch mounted bike racks are fine in the US. UK/EU cars can tow. It is also important for strap-on rear bike racks or backing with the liftgate open.

I’ve seen them for at least 25 years now. Those stickers could apply for “antique” license plates at this point.
