I had a similar problem. I charge with 110v using the Ford supplied EVSE device. I too had the amber and blue LEDs. The pigtail was very warm to the touch as was the wall plug. I disconnected the EVSE and plugged it back in, it looked normal.....for a while. Then I noticed the amber light again and a very warm pigtail. I flipped the breaker and examined the wire connection to the plug. This is a 50 year old house and the 110v plug is that old. The plug was wired by pushing the house wire into holes in the back of the plug. I removed the plug, polished the copper wire with emery paper, purchased a heavy-duty plug at HomeDepot, one which required me to wrap the house wire around a threaded post and tighten it with a screw driver. Once I did that the problem went away and the pigtail has not heated up again. It's been two months now and I haven't had a recurrence of the problem.

Interesting. Thanks for the reply. My breaker box is 10 years old and the 240v is brand new professional install.

Those are known a “backstabbed” receptacles and yes, they cause problems when used with heavy loads. I’d replace every one of them if I had them in my house.

my charge point home flex arrive. I took out my 14-50 receptacle, and hard wired the charge point to take full advantage of the 60amp breaker (and 6g wire)…and absolutely love it. Consistently get ~10.5kw speed. Set my charge time to super saver hours (11pm to 6am =7.4 cents per KWH) and have no problem recharging over night. The pic shows the manual price I put in the app. Not what consumers energy charges for 11pm to 6am.
