Hey folks,

So, I am in a very unique situation. My wife and I have 3 vehicles including the MME. my 2017 pickup is going in for its first mechanical issue tomorrow, probably a sensor, no big deal I hope. Last time it was at the dealer they actually asked me if I would be willing to sell or trade it to them because it has very low mileage (just shy of 23k). They actually offered within 1k of what I bought it for, new, in 2017. I declined at the time, had the MME on order and didnt want to be dealing with buying 2 new vehicles or being down a vehicle til the MME came in.

Fast forward to now, Truck is going in for a MAP sensor issue (I know I could replace it myself, but if I have a dealer maintenance record it would be easier to sell). And the MME has 800 someodd miles on it (I really dont go anywhere that isnt in-town). I put 16k down on the MME, its a MME Premium AWD ER. The rest is being paid on the ford options contract (and now I cant remember if I received the title on it, Ill have to check).

Anyway, so now im looking at possibly trading or selling the pickup and got to thinking if I trade the mustang in at the same time I would be able to afford a Yukon denali or the like with only a small loan that I could set at 2 or 3 years for the same im paying on the MME.

So, all that is to say, how much should I consider trading the MME for?

Edit: Ignore statement about Title, was the last thing I put in my safe, sitting right on top lol.

1) Used vehicles are very hot right now. Last time I looked, I could get all my money back on my 2017 F150 that I bought new. Check online (such as Vroom) - theyll likely give you more than your dealer.

2) You’re not going to come out ahead. My local GMC dealer is getting $25K over MSRP on Yukons.

I'd suggest that all the options you list are poor ones. Trading it, vs. private selling, is usually a bad decision in this market. Yes, in some states (apparently including Kentucky) do subtract the value of the trade when calculating sales tax, but the private market right now, and places like Carvana, CarMax, etc., often pay substantially more money.

Our dealer offered us $19,000 for our Fusion Energi. Carvana gave us $25,546. The Mach-E is hot right now. I can't imagine you not beating the trade price by a lot.

I'd also suggest that you probably want to better evaluate whether buying a Yukon Denali and getting rid of the Mach-E makes any sense at all, either vehicle-wise or financially.

1) Dealer offered 52000 last year, I paid 53, which, is insane.

2) I dont expect to come out "ahead" however, they have a Yukon XL denali they just got in listed 1k above retail, as well as a sierra 2500 denali right at retail. If I can trade both vehicles away and come out with less financed than I do on the MME (payoff is listed at 41000 this morning) thats a win as far as i am concerned.

3) I cant seem to find a value on the MME, its KBB doesnt seem to work for some reason.

You can't find a value because they want you to call and get one. That's because the value is very high and changing rapidly.

If you have a Premium, AWD, with the extended battery (as it seems you do), you should go into the dealer, bend over, and say "Thank you sir, may I have another" (reference to Animal House frat scene). You're getting hosed. The price should be upwards of $56 - $58,000.

Thanks for checking that KY fact for me, I actually didnt know for sure, I havent traded a vehicle in in a very long time (like 2009 ish).

I may go searching for private party sales, Im hesitant to sell both vehicles and be without a second vehicle for a while.

I bought the MME to see if I like electric... I do, the tech on the ford however makes me question ford long term. Im not going to get a tesla, hate their build quality. and I dont really WANT to get rid of the MME.

BUT

I need a vehicle with a higher ride height for using on the farm (my dad owns a farm and I take care of a lot of the stuff on it).

I need a real 4wd vehicle, the MME is great for adverse driving conditions, but I couldnt make it up my dads driveway with it when it snowed 4 inches last week, truck didnt spin a tire.

I dont care about efficiency, in the last 5 years I have driven 24000 miles, and probably 8k were the first year when we were moving.

I know my situation is super unique.

You should be able to get MSRP on the Mach E, if not more. The dealer won't give you that, is my guess.

Okay, well obviously if I want to sell the MME, im gonna have to go non-trade in, unless they offer me in that range. Im dumb, but not an idiot lol.

My truck might be a different story. IF I actually want to do this I may sell the MME, then when I get the check take it and the truck to the GMC dealer.

MAYBE.

One more thing I should note.

The MME is too small for trips more than in town.

Im 6'2, wife is 5'10, teenage daughter is 5'9, and we have a toddler. In the truck its no issue, everyone is super comfortable. In the car, the person behind me cant close their legs lol, and I cant fit even a slim car seat behind me. In the truck you dont even have to adjust the seats for the premium extra long car seat (our toddler is taller than most 4 year olds ugh.)

Yours and Ricks comments along those lines gives me most of the information I NEED. I wasnt expecting as much discussion, but I am super happy it happened.

I will definitely sell it to private party, or carvana, someone who will pay what its actually worth and I would lose, essentially tax on it.

A Yukon Denali isn't a pickup. I wouldn't be doing farm chores with one.

I have a 2013 F-150. Looks nearly brand new. I may buy a Lightning, though probably 2023 is when I'll get it. I may keep my 2013 for the dirty tasks, and the long drives towing (if there are some), vs. using the Lightning.

Take the truck to your father's house, leave the MME home.

I've never received a trade-in quote that could beat selling my used car to a private party. I suspect if you sell it to the dealer you'll be leaving money on the table. The only advantage to selling it to the dealer is speed of transaction. However, when I bought my Mach E I sold my previous car in 3 days for a lot more than the dealer quoted me.

HAH, I know its not a pickup, I wouldnt be using it for chores, we have a 1996 pickup we use for chores, however, if I want to go to the back of the farm to shoot, or other leisure activities... or even get up the driveway when the weather is bad.... It does ride on the same frame as my sierra. as well as has the cargo capacity when I need lumber for my woodworking projects.

All the speculation isn't going to answer the question. Contact Vroom, Carvana, and other brokers/resellers. They will give you a no-negotiation offer. Take that offer to the dealer and say, "beat this."

We sold our used car to Vroom in late 2021 for more than we paid in early 2019. The dealer offered less than we bought it for and were very condescending to us, "well, when Vroom try to cheat you, we'll still be here." Vroom then resold it for another $3k more than they paid us. And it was easier to deal with Vroom than it's ever been to deal with a dealer.

Funny, I ran it through Vroom, the MME is right at retail, woo hoo. The Pickup, they want to give me 37k, KBB says 45k for trade, 49k for private party lol.

It’s pretty simple. Start with MSRP. Then when you get them in the back room explain that there’s also a $10,000 ADM. If they push back, explain that it is for VIN etching and lifetime oil changes.
