Hi Everyone!

I am new to EV's but love the design of the Mach E and am in the market for a larger car than the one I own which is a two-door Mini Cooper. I was going to get a Bronco but Ford crapped the bed with the roll-out leading me from the Bronco forums to here.

I am looking to buy a car off a dealer lot as soon as possible. I have 30k downpayment (I've been saving up). I am willing to buy a car from anywhere. I mean anywhere. I live in New York but would fly to Atlanta to pick up the car and drive it back if I had to. I AM JUST NOT WILLING TO PAY A DIME OVER MSRP.

Below are the notes I have written down to help me with my search. Am I missing anything?
  • Call dealerships with car in stock
  • Ask if they are willing to sell the car for MSRP. If no, hang up the phone.
  • Looking for a late 2021 build date (preferably past August)
  • Don't let them try to add on any extra fees or sell me on some BS a lowjack system for a car that can be found on a map via the app.
  • I will not be getting an extended warranty so won't let them sell me on that either
  • Ensure the car is as up to date as possible (can do this by seeing if the frunk can be opened digitally)

Am I missing anything? I'm super nervous as this will be my first time buying a new car and easily will be the most expensive purchase I've ever made.

Any advice or tips will be appreciated. Even if it's you telling me how stupid I am. Call me anything but ugly and I'll accept it :)

Call any dealers up in Maine, I hear many have an abundance of Mach-e’s. Bill

Regarding your plan to buy a Mach-E, or any EV - can you charge it at home or at work? What is your daily commute? The range in winter is about half of declared.

FIRST OFF - THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP GUYS!!!

Regarding your plan to buy a Mach-E, or any EV - can you charge it at home or at work? What is your daily commute? The range in winter is about half of declared.
My plan is to get a level 2 charger installed at my house. The level one charger will have to do until I can get an electrician out. My research shows the price of this coming in at $600-1000. Is that about right?

I am lucky enough to work from home so my commute is 0. That being said I run an Airbnb 2 hours away from my apartment and my girlfriend lives two hours in the opposite direction. So I will have to use superchargers ( *EDIT* I meant to say fast chargers )for those longer journeys.

Thanks for the tip! I'm guessing EV's aren't selling like hotcakes in the dead of winter in Maine right now. That would be an awesome little trip for me and my girl. May sneak in a night at a ski resort or something.

There's been a decent amount of Select AWD in the new England area and you can get them at MSRP.

It's very local but sounds about right. Make sure to get multiple quotes - mine were 100% apart, and the cheaper one was actually better (copper wires vs aluminum, and included the permit).
I am lucky enough to work from home so my commute is 0.
After you get the car, you will think you are lucky when you have a reason to go somewhere. I'm going to the office twice a week now just to drive :p

You pretty much got it figured out. It’ll be a bit of work, but keep going until you find one.

A few things to keep in mind:

Best way to get MSRP- order one and wait 5-6 months.

Fastest way to get one NOW- pay a premium (ADM)

Include travel or shipping costs in your search. For example, I would rather pay a $500 ADM than have to go 3 states away to buy a car.

Consider your trade in (if you have one). If they give you $2k more for your trade, paying $2k over sticker is a wash. Just look at the bottom line what your total out of pocket is.

Summary- don’t obsess over MSRP, it’s only 1 part of the car buying “cost.”

Good luck! And remember, it’s a sellers market. The one way you may get what you want is to let them at least THINK they can make money on you somehow, or actually let them make money (trade in and financing).

Any MME built after 7/6/21 is sent with 2 fobs. I had to mention this after they tried to leave me with 1.

Wow, I didn't know this! Thanks for letting me know cause I'm sure the dealerships will either be dumb and not know or be shiesty and not care.

I don't have a trade-in. just going in there with a pocket full of money hoping the sharks don't rip me to shreds. I have been told not to let them know I plan on paying for 2/3's the car up front as dealerships make a ton off of financing and I actually won't be as appealing to them.

You haven't specified a model. Some you won't find on lots.

I'm looking for a 2021 Premium AWD in black. I'll update the original post.
