EU/UK approvals seemingly require the front pony not to light up but the hardware is there I think. I took my frunk out and can see a cable which I think is going to the light- see picture attached. Does anyone know if this is something that can be enabled in software and if I right that that is the connector for the light pls?

Such a shame another to add to the list of things we don't get in the UK. Feels like double standards in the UK/EU why do we get VW's and others with full light bars in the front of these cars. Adding a pony emblem with accent lighting was too forward thinking and it just doesn't fit into the category, would love to know if they had an actual reason for this and which rule it broke!

It's a legal requirement. You'll note the full width light bar VWs don't have illuminated emblems, there's a ruddy hole in the middle of the light bar where the VW logo should glow.

This isn't Ford's fault.

Never noticed this on others but prob wasn't paying too much attention.
So if you do manage turn this feature on, could you be fined?

I have no idea. I suspect it's a Construction & Use Regs issue, I daresay it's very very unlikely anyone will ever pick you up on it, but you certainly couldn't produce a car with that feature.

i am working on this using forscan
i managed to disable the double honk on engine running today now i am comparing our as built files to see if we can turn on the Pony light
as on forscan there isnt a "light up pony" option like there was for the "double honk horn"

Just to update you all - that connector is sadly NOT for the Pony but for the Pedestrian Crash Sensor...

Just bought and fitted a Mercedes illuminated grill emblem, bloody big thing, to my friends E63, genuine merc part as fitted to some other of their cars, complete with relevant plugs etc., plug and play ((actually plug and show :) )).

Here’s a US GT. Frunk removed looking between the front cross member and front bumper from the top.

Wiring diagram for reference. It uses the BCM LIN Bus to control on/off/dimming.

Apologies for dragging this post back from 2022 but has anyone got this to work in the UK? I see numerous 'kits' available from the US for non-GT models; would these enable a lit Pony on our soon-to-arrive MME?

Our GTs have a different front grille and don’t have the light up pony itself. I have bought both (getting old grille off isn’t easy!) wiring isn’t too hard but still working on getting the programming to work. Pics of the two grilles showing the difference.

I'm stuck trying to get this to work. It seems in Australia that pin 16 on the BCM has no wire coming out of it so you can't tap this and use Forscan. My thinking is I can either break open the BCM and hard solder to the pin or I wonder if anyone knows how the signal is being generated to be able to light up the emblem. Such a hassle I know but since I have already bought the grille and the light, I am keen to finish the job.

We’ve spoken elsewhere but for those wanting to know, you can buy a tail from Ford to add to the connector. It’s Motorcraft part number
WT-1002 or DU2Z-14474-CA…
