This is my first car with CarPlay... is it normal for Spotify to automatically turn on repeat when playing a playlist or album?

I've noticed that when playing a playlist it automatically turns on repeat so that it... well repeats the playlist at the end. It kind of makes sense to me so that it keeps playing music without causing a distraction to the driver having to find something else to listen to.

But... Spotify already has the option to play radio based on last song played that should take care of radio silence. Plus you always have voice command to tell it to play something else. So it makes me think it's not supposed to do this?

I've googled around and seems others have complained to Spotify about it and Spotify kind of takes it as an issue? But they didn't offer any kind of recourse.

Is this happening to everyone else and it's just a part of Spotify on CarPlay? Or am I having a weird experience?

it's not the most annoying thing. Especially while driving so far (haven't done any drives longer than a once listen through anyway). But it's slightly annoying because it does set my phone app to repeat too and it might catch me off guard later in the day listening to something.

I'm using Apple Music on CarPlay and it automatically resets to repeat almost every time the car is turned off/on. So, maybe a CarPlay thing that happens with Music and Spotify? Or, an Apple Music thing independent of CarPlay? Annoying is what they have in common.

It's not the radio station though. It's just turning repeat/loop or whatever you call it on. Like the button next to shuffle.

I can make a playlist with 1 song. If I play that playlist on CarPlay, it'll keep playing that 1 song over and over and over again.

It's the same concept. All a radio station is, is a playlist created by Spotify AI. This is a known feature/bug of Spotify. You an disconnect your phone, manually disable repeat, and then upon reconnection, repeat is reenabled.

Well, now you've done it. I'll have to go check. My playlist have way too many songs for me to notice. Now I'll have to do some testing

All of my playlists are much longer than my normal drive so I haven’t noticed either way. Let me make a short playlist and see what happens when I drive next.

Right but I'm not getting the AI created playlist. It's just looping the playlist I last told it to play.

Like I said, it hasn't been a problem for me on the drive. But it does get kind of annoying when I go to play a song later on and the song just loops instead of going into radio based on the song.

Interesting. I wasn't expecting something so similar. Well, at least I now know this is a bug and not a feature.
