Is this normal map behavior?

Depending on mood/preference I go back and forth between Google maps on CarPlay and the map Navigation program native to the MME. I've noticed some odd behavior with the native MME Navigation/map program:
  1. Sometimes the Navigation map will disappear and the screen will show whatever I had open in CarPlay. This lasts for a few seconds to sometimes longer and then the screen will revert back to the MME map. Is that a function of the car's cell signal (ATT) vs my phone's (Verizon)?
  2. Sometimes I lose the tile for the MME map. When I go to the menu that lets me click on Navigation, the map shows up but it shows me many points of interest like restaurants etc that after a while disappear (except for charging stations). I actually prefer not seeing those but not sure why they show up right after I bring the map up.
Is this typical behavior? I'm fairly up to date on OTAs (up to 4.1.3).

For #1 are you getting some sort of notification in CarPlay?

If your phone is connected to CarPlay, the car will switch back to CarPlay to display the notification and then return to whatever screen you were on before the notification.

Not that I am aware of, but yes, I've seen that when getting texts.

I suspect this is your answer. It happened to me recently when I was using the built in nav instead of CarPlay because I was in an area without cell coverage. Whenever the iPhone would get a notification (e.g., we popped into a zone with cell coverage and there was a text or similar), CarPlay would take over the screen.
