Now you see the confusion with the Tesla Tap......

I gss these will only work at Hotels or Shopping Mall or even Movie Theatre chargers
Or the Tesla brand EVSE at your friend's house.

I've used mine 3 times in the last year.
I'm not expecting it to make a huge difference in my charging. But when I need it I am going to be happy to have it. Kinda of like insurance I can't justify everything in $$. I bought a 2014 hybrid accord at a somewhat premium and only have 30K miles on it. I never overcame the difference in price but I didn't care, as I will never overcome the cost difference of MME and other ICE vechicles The convience of having this when I need it is why I got it. BTW it just got here from Fedex.
Now my car, can anyone find it sitting on a lot somewhere in Mexico?

We have put about 5,500 trip miles on the car I plan hotels with PlugShare, but I have Tesla chargers excluded, so now idea how much that would impact planning.

On a trip across southern NY state, our hotel had one of each charger. The J1772 was broken, no idea if the Tesla charger worked or not. We switched to another hotel, which had a working charger but was much lower quality lodging than the Hampton we had booked.

I will be evaluating this weekend seeing how many hotels in our current destination and next week's destination it would have opened up.

If you don't travel with overnight stops, or have a Tesla charger at your home or business, I would see no reason for one.

Telsa tap. Why not have it. Better to have more options than not. Great product.
The problem is the insane pricing. I mean look at it going the other way:

https://shop.tesla.com/product/sae-j1772-charging-adapter

$50 right from Tesla. This isn't rocket science. It's a SIMPLE bit of plastic and conductors to go the other way. Teslatap states they have a circuit to adapt the charging current. I imagine maybe there is some little AVR in it that speaks J1772 pilot signal and relays the Tesla protocol charge current? Or maybe nothing at all; I haven't checked how compatible the protocols are. But in general if it can go the other way for $50 this seems insane to spend $220+ for a similar thing. I bet similar adaptors are released shortly from other vendors. It's not UL listed afterall I don't think? If it is that would make it worth this kind of price I suppose.

I wasn't too happy about the 50 dollar family meal chicken price at KFC either, but you know things cost nowadays.

Hi All

I am not too familiar about this product but the Picture on top of this post got me thinking. I was told the tap does not work with the Tesla Network chargers but the pic shows a Tesla charger with a Black MME connected to it?
I live near by Walmart & see lots of those Tesla chargers. Will the Tesla Tap work there? Thx
I agree that the picture on the top of the page is misleading for two reasons...
1. That is a Tesla Supercharger and TeslaTaps or any adapters will not work to charge on them.
2. The adapter pictured is a Chinese Knock-Off (long Black Adapter) not a TeslaTap or a TeslaTap MINI.

You have to remember that Tesla Destination Chargers are designed not to let you charge any other type of EV where the standard J-1772 chargers are not designed to block Tesla's.
There is a special circuit in the TeslaTaps that stops the Tesla Destination / Wall Connectors from failing when you plug it into a non-tesla EV.
There is also safety switches in the adapter that stops the charging when you press the release so you do not pull out a HOT plug where the Tela has that built in.
The Tesla adapter can just be a pass through because all of the circuitry is on the Tesla..
