How to Charge past 100%.

I had a Chevy Volt that did this same “trick,” but it was slightly different technique—you had to unplug and replug quickly after it hit “100%” …. But this only got you a couple extra miles max.

i would be shocked if the MME would let you keep charging above 100% for very long, there has to be some kind of inherent battery safety protocol independent of the car’s sleep state (I hope!).

My car wakes up the moment I plug it in. Done this numerous times. If this isn't an exaggeration/joke post then some critical detail is missing.

The MME has a 99 Kwhr battery. We should only be using 88kwhr. It is only the software that limits the charging. Normally the drive from Truckee to Donner summit takes 10% battery capacity. I have gotten there with 96% when the car chargers past the limit
What is the mi/kWh used during that drive? Maybe that would help to tell if it's actually going into the 11kWh buffer or not.

just saw the photo above—156%%%%!!!!!! That’s crazy and I can’t see how that’s correct. 56% more beyond “max” would mean over half the battery would be unusable “reserve” for battery longevity, but that’s not the case. Still, this is quite the disturbing software bug.
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you're not in digital forensics.

I’ve also found that, if you shake and jiggle it, you can get a small amount more out ???

Apparently the battery buffer is mostly at the low SOC end. The high end is close to 100% of battery capacity. I'm pretty sure software won't allow you to charge over the physical limit as it significantly degrades the battery. The capacity itself is a function of temperature. There is also a self-warming effect, at certain temperatures you may observe a slight positive slope in the discharge curve.
