I have a Select SR RWD on order. Seems like it is enough to fit my purposes. I am not really looking for a high-performance vehicle, more looking at the efficiency as a family hauler. However, I don't want it to feel like an absolute dog either. Unfortunately, I was never able to drive a RWD in person, but have watched some video reviews where it seems peppy enough.

I was able to test drive an ER AWD, and I was really happy with the acceleration and performance, much more than I need. Obviously a SR RWD will not match up to that, but if it's even close to the 5.8s 0-60 (with rollout) they are claiming, that seems well enough for me. I'm currently driving a 2021 Explorer AWD with the 2.3L Ecoboost. It's not super fast, but I think it's quick enough, high 6 seconds I believe. If it felt more fun and less laggy than my turbo Explorer, I'd be happy with that.

Any SR RWD owners out there that care to share their experiences? More from the perspective of "quick" car that's fun to drive around and not an absolute slog. I know it's not going to wow any passengers like a Tesla or anything like that.

From a true performance perspective, I think you will be hard-pressed to feel or know the difference. I'm willing to bet if you went to a dealer and they blindfolded, so you didn't know if you were getting into an RWD or AWD, you wouldn't know. There will be a few here that will claim they could feel the difference, though.

I think AWD is great if you live in an area where road conditions get bad. People have, and will continue to, drive RWD vehicles in the snow, and I do like an AWD for that, personally.

Thanks, yeah I'm hoping the difference will be minimal. The ER AWD really threw me back in the seat and was a lot of fun. Obviously AWD will launch harder with the added traction. But that model I test drove was also an Extended Range, which has more hp/torque as well. I see the ER RWD is actually slower (6.1s) than the SR RWD (5.8) due to the heavier weight. The SR RWD seems good on paper as long as your expectations are kept in check. If it was 75% of the performance I felt in that ER AWD, I'll be quite happy.

I have a select RWD standard range MachE. I've had it for over a year. You won't be disappointed in the performance.
One bit of advice from a former Michiganian; get the AWD. You'll need it for winter driving.

The torque and horsepower of the electric rear wheel drive select can’t really be compared to ICE cars

If you’re not looking to do burnouts and challenge ice mustang GT’s and Tesla model threes and y's. ( why's? Lol. ) then you’ll be more than happy with the power and performance of the electric pony even at its lowest level

The rear wheel drive base model is fantastic you will love it it’s way fast and powerful.

There's a lot of GT enthusiasts here and that's great. It might give you a feeling you have ordered an impotent vehicle
That would be wrong

Thanks! Yeah, I've been really going back and forth on the RWD vs AWD. Most in Michigan would want the AWD, but for me, I feel like I'm more concerned with the range hit (224 vs. 244 miles) than I am the extra traction. There's usually only like 2-3 times a winter where the snow is so bad that the plows don't get it all cleaned up within a few hours. And I work from home, so I don't need to go anywhere on a bad weather day and can wait it out.

I've driven RWD in the snow here before, and with modern ESC/TCS, it was never too bad as long as you drive smartly. With the MME, I'm also thinking with the rear motor and all the weight of that battery nicely spread across the body, it should be no worse than a FWD, if not better.

I am tempted by the performance and added confidence the AWD would offer, but in SR battery form, I think the year-round range hit isn't worth the 2-3 times AWD would be useful. If they still were allowing orders on them, an ER AWD would probably have been my choice.

I've had the Premium RWD SR and found it pretty peppy. It's still sub 6s in 0 to 60.

I've also owned Model Y, Model 3 RWD, and ID.4. The Mach-E RWD and Model 3 RWD are very close in performance whereas the ID.4 RWD is a dog and the EV6 RWD + Ioniq 5 RWD are pretty sloooow too (I test drove the SEL RWD and Wind RWD).

Personally the Model 3 RWD and Mach-E RWD hit the sweet spot. I had passing power at all speeds. I found my Model Y too fast (and yet I'm getting a GTPE... lol) as I would almost ram into cars when accelerating + changing lanes

People overrate AWD in winter driving (as a upper Midwesterner myself). Sure it's helpful in some aspects, mainly getting started from a stop and going up an incline. But a pair of snow tires will do more for you overall, which you can easily buy with the cost savings.

I ordered an AWD mainly for the little bit of performance bump and like you say it is nice to have a handful of days in the winter.

Yeah, in Metro Detroit, so roads are never too bad, usually just slushy after the plows and some tracks are made. I've found just driving a RWD gently is no big deal around here. If I were in Marquette, no way. Explorer lease will be turned in for the Mach E. My daughter does have another AWD vehicle in the household if needed.

I do most of my road tripping in the summer so hoping I can get away with a RWD and just be careful, or get winter tires if I have to. Bummer that ER AWDs are no longer order-able, as that would probably be my first choice. But I'm not planning on keeping this Mach E long term. Doing the Ford Options plan and plan to dump and try out the next greatest iteration at that time.

I'm happy with the performance of my Select RWD. Timed it with Car Scanner and it was 0-60 in 6.15 sec without a rollout. Good steering feel and handling for a crossover. You won't be disappointed coming from an Explorer.

I have the AWD extended range premium but I have test drive the RWD. Honest you can barely tell the difference and the RWD is going to give more get up and go power off the line than almost any ICE and sure as hell will do it more easily than any ICE.

Rarely if ever do I ever demand full power from my Mach E so it is not hardly ever going to be getting off the line faster than the RWD select. Now compared to an ICE that is a different story. I do not like driving ICE any more due to its acceleration curve not being as smooth and is noticeable in the lag time to power.

Thanks for all the great answers everyone! Love hearing these stories. I know it’s hard to compare specs to ICE. My Explorer is fun overall, but the turbo lag is brutal. It hits hard in Sport mode, but it takes a good half second to respond to any input. That’s what I loved about the Mach E’s electric motor when I test drove, it was pretty much instant and smooth the whole way. Very linear.

If the SR RWD isn’t a huge step down from the ER AWD I tested, that sounds good. Just didn’t want to be disappointed with something that felt slow and heavy.

I ā€œlaunchedā€?my current car (Ford Flex) to do 0-60 test. I stopped counting after 15 secs. RWD will be fine.?
