So last week after 10months of ownership I got the Yellow light on my Ford Charger that reduces charging down 10 miles per hour or less. I posted about it on the FB page and apparently many others are getting this now also. I just read someone say Ford may know about this issue and is no longer selling the chargers because of a known issue? Any one else know about this? I was going to take mine into the dealer to exchange under warranty but doesnt look like i can yet if thats the case. (and yes all connectors are in and secure its been mounted in the place for 10months, also it doesnt feel hot to the touch the reason the manual says it reduces charging speed)

Problem 2 is I lost the adaptive cruise control with the 21p22 recall update. I was going to go back in thursday(may 19) and got a call yesterday from the dealer saying to not come in. Ford is having major issues with their software updates causing errors. A ford tech on another FB post said " It's been wishful thinking the last few weeks for programming to actually go through. 21G01, 21P22, 21S44, and other related FDRS programming just hasn't been working, and producing nothing but errors" Anyone else experiencing this?

Luckily my car is perfect other wise except these 2 annoying issues. Im probably going to go buy a Chargepoint charger just in case the Ford charger goes out completely. With so many others in the same boat, there might be run on buying chargers.

Yes - several reports on here about both issues.
It seems that the loss of lane keeping is not related to 21P22, but rather a failed 21G01 update and/or FDRS issue(s).

Good timing. My charger just had the same issue last night. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it restarted without any further issue. I've been using it without any problems for ten months now.

Chiming in here to +1 on both issues. A fair warning to anyone heading to the dealer for updates, or, say, a warranty fix for the charger: It’ll be a while. I think Ford is mandating loaner cars? But still, sucks (and has sucked) to be without our car for upwards of two weeks (and counting…)

When I noticed this first start I was on the last few days of my FDRS license so I wrote it off as bad luck, but now I'm glad I didn't renew. Of course, it doesn't really make me feel great about asking the dealer to take a stab at the BC update now. I dropped my car off for a right CV axle replacement last week, which blossomed into a half shaft replacement (of course they tell me they do not recommend that I drive the car, right after I told them that I couldn't leave it there longer than that day, and after initially telling me the knock sound was harmless), so I figured the car would be there for a while anyway, so why not try. Oh well, I'm out of the country for six weeks so I guess they will have plenty of time to play with the software in the mean time.

I have this failed software update (21G01), but the same dealer installed 21P22 previously, and it worked fine. When I took the car into the dealer for 21G01 the service advisor was bemoaning the fact that they just get failure after failure when trying to install the updates. Not just the MME, but also the F-150.

Even after the 21G01 failure, today I got OTA 2.8.2 telling me I now have BlueCruise. But it still does not work. Nor does lane centering. I refuse to go back to the dealer and wait many more days for my car, I will just wait it out and see if the OTAs finally fix it.

Update: There may be a fix coming, waiting to hear back from the dealer after Ford talks to them.

What did they tell you about the charger or charger fix? I think that cements my choice to buy a different level 2 charger now and get the ford replaced under warranty sometime as a back up travel one.

I had the amber light before and unplugged and plugged back in and no issues, but this one keeps coming back after like 30mins of charging. And very odd everyone is getting it at the same time.

Ultimately the Service Center agreed to replace it under warranty, but noted that they wouldn’t be able to cover it if it happened again. Not sure how true that is but they clearly didn’t want to deal with this.

The whole process for me has been a bit of a mess (to put it very nicely): I brought the car in ostensibly for a new charger, but they did the BlueCruise update which bricked the car and that is still unresolved afaik. They finally went to test the charger the other day and, lo! They didn’t have a 240v outlet to test from. Fairly unacceptable given that Ford now sells many cars that can charge off 240v and are bound to need diagnostics on that front from time to time.

Anyways, it’s been a hot mess. Get a loaner, grumble about paying for gas, and pray it doesn’t take more than a week.

I replaced the Ford Mobile Charger with a GrizzlE after using it for nine months. It still works albeit with intermittent amber light faults.

I also installed the GrizzlE and happy with it. The ford charger amber lights as it heats up. I live in AZ. Guess what, its hot here 6 months of the year. The GrizzlE doesn't slow down in the heat.

I think the amber light is a heat issue. It happens to mine whenever it is above about 50°F in my garage while charging. I felt around the EVSE once while the amber light was on, and the only warm spot was at the end of it where the cable came out going towards the car. My EVSE is mounted to the wall upside down due to my NEMA 14-50 outlet being kinda low to the ground.

I wondered if the cord coming out and bending down towards the floor was putting strain on the connections right inside the EVSE housing. Maybe user error on my part was causing some extra heat?

It does have me looking to replace with a more permanent EVSE sometime soon. Pulling in with less than 20% charge I am suddenly less confident that my car can be full(ish) by the morning anymore.

I am from the days before EVs came with L2 EVSE. Installed a L2 nine years back and just upgraded to a 48 amp unit.
These threads just worry me on the time that I go to use my stock EVSE it’ll have a significant issue. I’ve used it maybe three times so far.

The amber light is an indication of a heat problem, but it’s unclear whether the rash of reported occurrences is truly a heat problem, or an issue with the overheat detection scheme.

In my case the charger did not feel hot to the touch but after I set up a fan to cool it then it went back to pulsing blue as normal.
