Parking brake applying with shift to Park.

New OTA a few days ago (2.7.1), I've noticed that the parking brake is now being applied when I shift to park.

Is this really part of the update or has something else been changed on the dash panel?

I have all of the updates, and my car doesn't do this. I was actually hoping this would be added as a configurable option. There are at least a couple of other owners that have reported this behavior, but I haven't seen it. I assume you're on flat ground when this happens?

I noticed it on my 2021 in the last few weeks, not on my 2022.

I have also noticed that on my 2022, with AutoHold Off, when I start with my foot on the brake it makes a mechanical sound and moves, whereas on the 2021 it doesn't seem to do that.

I will be comparing them side by side this weekend when I wash them, as well as attempting to measure the sound dampening of the different side windows.

Are you on an incline? Mine automatically turns parking brake on when it’s on an incline.

My 2021 GT seems to put the parking brake on automatically only when I shift to park on a significant incline. It never does it in my garage, but if I park on my sloped driveway it engaged automatically.

This is an automatic feature and is intended. It is described in the manual. It can also be automatically applied if you shift to park without the brake pedal being fully depressed.

OK, incline. It happened in the same driveway I've been on since new in September.

My car usually sets the parking brake in my driveway but every once in a while it won't. The grade must be on the borderline for the slope sensor.

Cool feature, but it's been a habit for me for 40 years.... Stick shifts.

Same here. I also drive medium duty and heavy duty trucks. Setting the parking brake is mandatory so it has become habit for every vehicle I drive.

I don't know what's going on but since 2.7.4 the parking brake activated while i was in drive stopped at a stop sign and trying to do a 3 point turn. Car was still in drive. Anybody else have this issue?

Not many on that update. we'll keep an eye out for it.

This would be nice to have configurable. My garage is on a very slight slope, and there is *significant* rollback in my MME if I forget the parking brake. I assume that's a feature of the single speed transmission geared like 6 or 7 in an auto. I try to always set the parking brake, but I have forgotten a couple of times, and I always cringe thinking about all the weight loading the parking pawl.

Ya its definitely happening when i change from reverse to drive after the first start. It applies the parking brake in between the switch so when i press the accelerator im blocked and have to take off the brake again. Thought it was the park assist but even with it off it still happens.
