I'm no "train man", just reading up on things related to MME production and distribution. I hope this is useful.Mine is also in Laredo, Tx and I live in Austin, Tx. A 3 hour drive away.. yet I still have a July delivery date. A month away. Why must it go to kc first?
Laredo is the most busy railroad crossing of the US-Mexico border. It's where Kansas City Southern rail line carrying Cuautitlan-produced MME enters the US. It's also where Customs & Border Protection (CBP) conducts their inspections of those trains. As far as I can determine, this facility is not a transfer point. The CBP inspections are aimed at keeping the trains moving while still performing their necessary purposes. KCS railcars are mostly routed to sorting yards in the Kansas City vicinity where the MME-loaded rail cars are handed off to other rail lines or moved to trucks for further deliveries. Apparently, there are sometimes delays at such "sorting" locales while full truck or train loads are assembled for common destinations.
