FORD MOBILE CHARGER IS NOT MEANT FOR DAILY USE!!!

I would love to see what the connection looks like inside the unit where the cable comes out of the EVSE going to the J1772 connector. That is the end of my unit that is hottest by far. I worry that the connection is loose and could cause a fire if I continue to use mine over time.

Is it possible to for you to see where those cables connect inside yours being the cover has already come off most of the way?

I do not have the exploded Ford Mobile Charger anymore.

I don’t know about the Grizzl-E. You might want to contact the manufacturer. I almost bought a JuiceBox but found out through watching a YouTube video comparing chargers that the cable becomes stiff in cold weather. The ChargePoint does not. This I bought the ChargePoint. It works great!

the bracket is there to hold it while it's charging, and not having to lay it on your garage floor and/or driveway... How is this so hard for everyone to understand? The hanger is them just being courteous if you intend on using it routinely in the same spot from time to time, but it's MOBILE and comes in a bag in the TRUNK for you to take off the hook, throw in your trunk and have it to take on vacation, a commute, business-travel, etc.

You seem to be making a lot of assumptions.

It’s the only charger Ford gave us, so it’s the only charger Ford expects us to use.

And if it breaks from use? Ford covers it under warranty. That tells me it’s being “used as intended.”

I think that calling the supplied charger a “mobile charger” refers to its versatility and not its limitation, as you choose to see it.

To believe that Ford included this charger only to be used occasionally during travel is quite a stretch.

Do you honestly believe that Ford intended us to go out and purchase a charger for daily use after buying the car and, without making any reference to it in the manual or any other literature?

If Ford intended this, and, without being clear, intended the supplied charger to be only occasionally used, do you think they would be worried that nearly all of us would dangerously misunderstand their intent? They have way too many liability lawyers on the payroll for this to ever happen.

Not sure what being portable has to do with anything.

Ran a dedicated 50 amp circuit for mine to use the 14-50 option and have not had any issues with it thus far. I don't use it every day as I charge at work for free most of the time.

When or if I do decide to hardwire in a different one I will be going with one that gives me some kind of return. My electric company will give me $300 back as well as extra off if I charge off peak and my state will also throw some cash my way if I register it with a sharing service and get it inspected. (if state bill passes again this year that is I will get up to $700 from my state)

So make sure to look and take advantage of what you can get in your area before you just buy any brand charger as my $300 and added lower off peak pricing from my electrical service provider is only good for three different brands and the Grizzly is not one of them.

This is not typical. The charger might be faulty, or there may be a fault on the circuit it's connected to. Also: you seem to be receiving multiple alerts for fault events, which is a reflection on some flakiness of the app more than anything else.

I wouldn't take that as an indication that Ford is specifically recommending the mobile charger, just AC charging in general. You might just as easily be AC charging from a wired-in Level 2 charger and still meet this recommendation.

That said, the mobile charger is pretty robust. I live in a rental and don't have an option to use anything else myself until I buy my own place and get a charger installed.

I dont think they care, tbh. They (Ford) and countless other people sell hardwired options. Them including a mobile charger, bag, and dedicated trunk cut-out indicates to me this CAN be used whenever/however we see fit, but more or less it's portable and mobile to be used help fight the stigma around "range-anxiety". You be you.

Do you have a link to the video you watched?

I don’t remember the exact video. But if you search for any charger review such as ChargePoint, you’ll get reviews and comparisons. I recommend the State of Charge YouTube channel. The reviewer is very knowledgeable, unbiased, and does really in-depth reviews. I bought the ChargePoint Flex as it delivers 48 amps, which is what the Mach E accepts. It also has a very flexible cable.

There are like 20 warnings in the owners manual for the charger, and none of them say “not for daily use.”

If this were to be for limited use (like a spare tire), they’d likely say so.

It definitely seems like Ford intended this for daily use.

Now if we want to debate the “quality” of the product……… that’s a whole different debate. And based on the number of charging faults I and others have had, it’s safe to say there are better alternatives.
