I bought a Sense energy monitor to make dedicated high resolution power and energy measurements. My whole home Sense sees the chargepoint, but the graphs are less useful for real time understanding as other things turn on and off in the single high resolution graph.

I am curious how LVB charging, DC/DC converter operation, and charging events correlate to each other. Sense samples at 1 MHz (1 microsecond), and graphs with a 1 second time resolution. The reporting vertical resolution appears to be 1 Watt. Here is a MME 15 minute precondition to have a quick first look.

And you got Sense to recognize your charger?! After more than three years I still have a huge bunch of stuff in other.

It's to the point that I purchased an Emporia Vue to put in the sub-panel that will support the EVSE.

No, my whole home Sense does not see the chargepoint with MME as a device. I think it did once, then got confused. I just offered my second dedicated Sense data to Sense, so maybe they can add MME to the database. MME is not yet on their list of recognized EVs (no Fords).

I am disappointed by Sense's ability (or lack thereof) to find most devices. But, the meter feature with real time graph based on the 1 MHz sampling is the best I have ever seen in an energy monitor, pretty close to lab quality measurements.

Great stuff!
I get the whole machine learning thing, but for the life of me I do not understand their failure to actively curate the device signatures. I am sure that the linkage of the TP Link HS110's have done more to corrupt their AI than any training process would have.

Agree 100%. It is such a great concept, except that it mostly does not work. I do enjoy studying what it did find in my home, but device ID is subpar at best. But, as an energy monitor, they nailed it. Well, it would be nice if it gave data files. (It might be possible to get the one second data by an API).

Excited to see if anything interesting happens tonight. I may have missed most of the coldest days, but we are supposed to go to -5F (-20C) by tomorrow morning. I am really curious to see if there are any very short, relatively low power events. Or, if there are any events, if the charger only comes for a substantial kW charging event of minutes or longer.

I just got Sense on the hope it would be able to actually deliver on the machine learning. In the week I've had it I've probably spent more time researching the Emporia Vue than anything else. Luckily I've got 120 days to decide if I want to return it

I forgot to mention that I do also rely on and enjoy studying the solar array data which they show as overlaying the home chart (hmm, so as @generaltso said, I could have had this dedicated graph as the second graph with two extra current clamps, were it not for my solar (Sense only has two channels)). The high resolution solar graphs are superb, far better than the Enphase energy meter reports (although Enphase has different important features).

I will look at the Emporia Vue to learn about it. While disappointed that sense does not do a better job finding devices, it is a solid product as an energy monitor. The high resolution digitization with one 1W, one second graphing is hard to beat.

Example with home solar array showing (only 20% of solar capability in the deep of winter)

I have a main panel with 42 breakers, so the devices that only monitor 16 CT's really don't work for me as a global solution. I hold out hope for solutions like Span Smart Panel — Span® | A Smarter Electric Panel , but even they are limited to 32 breakers.

The Vue is a point solution for the EVSE and affordable.

I've been considering the Sense monitor and am wondering if the "Sense Flex" would allow me to use the 2nd set of sensors to do dedicated monitoring of my EVSE circuit. Does anyone here know or have you tried that?

That will work, but it uses the same jack as the solar panel sensors so you can't do both.

I have a Schneider "Wiser Energy", which is just a rebranded Sense, available if you'd wanna buy it.

I moved to per-circuit monitoring. Much more clutter in my panel, but I love having break-downs for each circuit.

Really don’t understand why Sense has yet to pick up my Chargepoint Flex.

Lets play spot the car charging signal. If anyone is smarter than the Machine Learning algorithm, you can say you’ve beat the machine!

Awesome! Just put my order in for it and will be hooking it all up this weekend.

Installed yesterday and am seeing something odd: with dedicated circuit monitoring my Grizzl-E and Mach-E, even with the circuit breaker off and/or EVSE unplugged completely, the app still shows about 45W continually used.
