Thanks so much Lee - I really appreciate it! When I ask the EV Tech to look for the error code you are seeing is there I time stamp I can give them? Likely around 5:30 pm today :)

You are awesome, really appreciate it.
The code first appeared on November 11. It doesn't flag the exact time because it only reports when you drive the car afterwards (not when the fault happens), so it will say "fault previously detected" meaning it happened during the previous charging session.

Do you have a whole-home surge protector?

No, I do not...
Well I would potentially think about getting one on the odd chance that your charger was damaged by a power surge. It will take up another two breaker slots, so may not be possible to easily install on a full panel.

I will look into it for sure - didn't know there was such a thing!

There are whole-house surge protectors that can be wired in instead of mounting in a breaker position. But I wouldn’t recommend them for DIY installation.

Alright, you have a U3000:49 code in the SOBDM (on-board charger) which means an internal electronic failure was detected. So it's possible your charger needs to get replaced.

"When powered on, the SOBDM performs an internal self tests and monitors the operation of internal components including DC voltage/current sensor and the AC voltage/current sensor. If an SOBDM internal component failure occurs DTC U3000:49 sets. Presence of this DTC illuminates the Charger Service Required indicator in the IPC and results in the CSI (Charge Status Indicator) flashing a fault pattern and the vehicle will not charge."

When this code is present and keeps coming back, the service manual calls for replacing the on-board charger.

So it might be time to visit the dealer. Perhaps the higher amperage is triggering the internal fault in the charger more so than lower amperage. Tell them they need to test it with a 40+ amp EVSE.
So...just had a chat with the EV Tech at the dealership who is skeptical at best. He says it "could be anything" throwing that fault, it could be your charger, it could be your wiring (he asked me if my house was new), who knows what the EVSE is doing, etc. Was not even interested in looking at the car - he seems convinced it's me.

They also have no way of testing it as they only have 40A EVSE chargers.

So I will be heading to my friend's house tonight to try his 50A Audi charger, which he says delivers 9 kW regularly.

If it fails tonight I'll be heading back to the dealer...

Also don't understand why they are putting up a fight for potential warranty work.

Not impressed.

Know anyone else with an EV that can try your charger?

I had a Chargepoint HomeFlex that died in a similar manner to yours. Confirmed it was dead by getting a friend to test their car.

It was a nightmare to work with Chargepoint Support to get a replacement unit authorized when it was well under warranty. Had no home charging for 6 weeks. I was pissed and ended up just buying an Autel unit while waiting and then just resold the replacement Chargepoint when it arrived. Fuck them.

I do - a friend has an Q4 eTron.

CP must have improved since then - they sent a new unit out to me pretty quickly, I had it 8 days later.

I also still have the old CP unit - if his Audi EVSE is plug-in I could also try the old unit at his house on his eTron.

Biggest issue though is Ford not being able to diagnose their own cars - how can you tell me my data is bad if you can't supply your own? The car is rated up to 11 kW AC, yet you can't tell me if it's actually able to do that right now?

@Ford Motor Company any help here would be appreciated

Which model of the AUTEL? Amazon has a black Friday special. Also considering Grizzle or Emporia

Can anyone tell me if the on board charger also "requests" power from the EVSE in the same way (conceptually) as a DCFC charge? Or does it just accept whatever the EVSE gives it, up to a max of 48A, based on the EVSE's max amperage?

Is there a handshake & negotiation between the car and the EVSE?

I'm wondering what's happening when I see the charging graph in the CP App ramping up to the max kW shown during the session - is that the car ramping up or is it the EVSE?

Deal of the day: Autel Home Smart Electric Vehicle (EV) Charger up to 50Amp,Level 2 EV Charger,Energy Star, CSA,Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Enabled EVSE, 25-Foot Cable https://a.co/d/6BPUKPO
That's a good deal. I bought one of those in June and have had no problems. Fordpass shows 10 amps. The Autel shows charging at 46.5 amps/11 kw. It keeps a log of how much electricity you're using.

There is a handshake. And the on-board charger does make a request. This can be seen with an OBDII reader and car scanner. I have my EVSE set to 32 amps but, once heated up, the car will request/accept much less. So it’s not a binary 1/0 accepting power/not accepting.

You might want to read through my thread on getting a charge port replaced (and the onboard charger as well while they were at it). Here

Perfect - thanks for that. I'm trying to learn as much as I can to be able to call bullshit on the EV tech if need be. I think he has a bit of God Complex right now...
