There is no "issue". I can set it to anything between 6 and 48. At 48 it makes more cooling noises, which uses energy, than at 32. Why waste energy for no reason? Cost is irrelevant, waste is waste. If I need charge asap, it takes me about 10 seconds to open app and change it.

I get that. I'm not unconcerned about wasting resources, but if I have to call them to set it at 32 and then if I want to charge faster and have to call them to change the amperage and then call them to change it back it's a pain.

That is exactly what they had to do to comply with current NEC. Otherwise they could only be installed hardwired on a 70A breaker since the device is rated for 50A continuous.

Here's an excerpt from the 2020 NEC (625.42) with the requirements:



So they had to remove the setting so Joe Homeowner can't easily change the amperage above the branch circuit rating by accident after it's installed. Being a major commercial EVSE supplier, ChargePoint wants all their products to fully comply with NEC so there aren't any installation or inspection issues in strict jurisdictions. I'm sure there were cases where the Home Flex failed inspection when it was discovered the homeowner could adjust the amps above the circuit rating themselves in the app.

Personally, I think the place for the adjustment of charging amps should be in the car, not the EVSE. I'm disappointed Ford didn't implement an adjustment option in the vehicle like Tesla.

I know exactly what the code says. My point is that they handled this all wrong. I agree with what @RickMachE said in post 42.

Not sure if it has been discussed in this thread or others... There is currently not an option to select a 2022 MME. Only option is 2021. I contacted them about a month ago and they created a ticket to add the 2022 model year. The extra 3kwh might not make much of a difference in my situation because I have the MME set its charge level to 85% rather than the CP setting charge level.

Just to add another data point, we have a ChargePoint hardwired on a 60A breaker. We just leave it at 48A and not worry about it.

Ark, sorry I didn’t see your post. I thought when I set it up I had that capability.So that explains it. I think I’m on 48, so perhaps I won’t change. No real need at this point, just curious. Do you think they will bring it back anytime soon?

Yes, I think this feature is coming back. I think the removal is temporary - they uncovered an issue, and because they don't want people to damage their EVSE's until they figure out what to do, they have disabled the feature for the time being.

Thanks. I'd prefer to have a smart EVSE rather than somewhat smart EVSE since that's what I paid for
