So something off I've noticed with my GTPE, when in unbridled the car does not coast what so ever when my foot is off the pedal, it's like one pedal drive is turned on, even though it's not. If I turn on one pedal driving, it's even more break force with my foot off the pedal, like 2x as much, with one pedal off it's still very noticable though. I don't notice this at all in whisper mode, it coasts like a gas powered car.

I know these have the same tech in them that gets battery charge back from breaking, so I assume that is what is going on here, but if that's the case, why does it not do it in whisper mode? I know one pedal drive is supposed to be way better for milage, but I just can't seem to get used to it. Other than this I love my car, but this is really odd quirk.

Welcome to the forum. Really pretty simple reason why it coasts in whisper mode, not in one pedal drive: Some folks just don't like the feel of brake regen. My wife is one of those. Whisper turns it into a regular car, something folks are use to feeling.

Me? All I drive is one pedal drive, love it. Its something you will come to enjoy.

What everyone said.

Whisper has the lowest regeneration, so it’s almost like an ICE vehicle coasting when you take your foot off the gas. It also provides the loosest steering (though all three modes are tighter than most cars).

Engage has a moderate amount of regeneration, so it slows moderately. It increases steering firmness a bit.

Unbridled has the most regeneration, made to somewhat emulate the feeling of a stick shift car being downshifted (but also recouping more energy for the battery in the slowdown process). It increases steering firmness the most.

1PD or the Low gear button (L on your gear selector dial) gives you basically the highest regen. There may or may not be a difference between the two here as far as regen strength; they feel about the same to me, but I don’t have numbers to back it up.

I’m the same as Jimmy2. My profile is Engage or Unbridled with 1PD always on. I love 1PD. It’s so much more “natural” and instinctive to me than the two-pedal system (and I’ve been driving 35-ish years). For my wife, it’s in Whisper, standard mode, no auto-hold. That way it feels as much like her minivan as possible, and she wants nothing to do with the “weird things my car does.” This way, it‘s fire and forget for her.

I love that Ford tagged the drive mode choices to your profiles. When either of us gets into the car with our matching phone (or fob, but I’m PAAK 100%), all those settings go right into place.

Related question. Do the brake lights come on when you lift completely off the "gas" pedal in unbridled mode? I drove stick for most of my life and I think the amount of braking is perfect in unbridled mode (and I only drive in that mode as a result) but I am always wondering if the person behind me is cursing me out because the brake lights don't accurately reflect what is happening. Anyone know?

They come on when deceleration is above some threshold. So the brake lights come on even before you've fully let off the pedal in unbridled.

Try driving in Engage, I very much dislike one pedal driving myself and find the regen in Engage is minimal enough to tune out while still being sportier than Whisper.

Yup, what he said, and it’s actually a really low threshold. I‘ve been able to see the reflection of my brake lights at night a couple of times when someone was following me way too closely, and I noticed that they come on the same instant I even think I feel the deceleration start. You’re good.

The lift off braking in Unbridled is supposed to simulate engine braking in an ICE car. Its sort of in between no regen and full one pedal drive.

I don't really care for Unbridled myself. It makes the car kinda twitchy to drive. Your mileage may vary though. So make sure to try all three drive modes to see which you like the most.

This, although funny enough it feels even stronger than downshifting in my old 5 speed GT. I switched to Engage and never looked back. Really wish we could customize the modes.

I'm pretty much Engage 100% of the time myself. The other modes may as well not be there :D

I prefer the suspension and steering settings of Unbridled, so I put up with the heavy regen and got more or less used to it. ??

Ford really need to get with the program like other manufactures and offer a custom mode that lets you pick n choose from the 3 preset setting so you can get what you want. While I prefer the steering weight of unbridled the lift off regen is awful and can easily unsettled the vehicle it also costs me range so I have to use whisper and put up with light weight steering instead :(.

For the GTPE the suspension setting should really also have had an independent button to cycle through to allow you to override the default setting for the mode.

...... I know one pedal drive is supposed to be way better for mileage, .......
While many believe this to be true.....it isn't.
Drive in whatever mode you prefer. The efficiency is largely determined by driving style. The various modes have very very very little variation between them in terms of efficiency.
