For the past couple of months, I have noticed that the back seat on the passenger side, seems to make a creaking or squeaking noise whenever we are hitting bumps, which is an awful lot in the city of Chicago. The noise does not happen or at least not as much when the seat is folded down. It seems like it is coming from the latch area where the seat clicks in to lock in the upright position. I cannot figure out for sure the cause of this noise, but would love to somehow have it fixed. Has anyone else run into this at all? I already get annoyed by the feel of how bumpy and bouncy the ride is; I don't want to have to listen to it, too...

I had a similar noise, but it was coming from the driver's side back seat. I tried and tried, but couldn't find the source of the noise. I asked the dealer to check it out when it was in for something else, and they said they couldn't duplicate the problem. Then I took my car in a month later for the glass recalls, and when I picked it up, the noise was gone. Still don't know what it was, but in the process of doing the glass recalls, they somehow fixed it.

I wish that was the case for me. I had the glass recalls done about a month ago and, if anything, the sound is worse since then. I don't think the glass recall situation plays into the noise I'm dealing with though.

@bellyer Did you ever figure this out? I have been wondering about this noise as well from the backseats - squeaking and rattling - on bumpy roads. I'd love to figure this out. Here is a video of the sound as best as I could capture it (it's the rattling, not the tapping).

This in only to suggest checking things that are easy to overlook: After we first got the MME I was driving to work and getting really annoyed by a rattling that seemed to be coming from behind the carter screen. I ran my hands back there and around the rear view and could not figure it out. After three days I was just about to take it in when I realized the rattle was a bit higher up, and found that my wife had stashed a pair of large plastic sunglasses in the overhead sunglass holder. Removed those, rattle gone. :)

Oddly, I never did figure it out, but it also seemed to go away for a long while, but I was just thinking a couple days ago how annoyed I am that it has returned. I also get a constant vibrating/buzzing from the plastic molding where the sunglasses and overhead lights are that stops if I push firmly on the edge of it. The dealer says it is not a problem, but I disagree. These noises that occur constantly inside a very quiet car are far too noticeable and annoy the heck out of me.

I had a rattle/creak coming from the back. I think the source of mine was the adjustable floor in the rear cargo area. It can rattle a bit because it doesn’t fit snugly on all sides. I fixed this by laying down a blanket in the rear cargo area and tucking one end of the blanket into the gap between the rear seats and cargo floor. This stops the cargo floor from moving around, and seems to have fixed the rattle.

We just had the HVJB replaced a second time with the updated part finally, and since then there has been an awful rattle/sometimes squeaking from the rear cargo area. Rough roads and bumps increase this noise.

Anyone ever confirm other than than the adjustable cargo floor? I am thinking it is the Styrofoam insert that holds the mobile charger and inflation kit with friction on the metal below, but my other half disagrees.

Test your theory. Take out the load floor and/or the styrofoam insert and go for some drives.

We did do that and then installed it back again and it was fine, then came back again. I plan to put a blanket under the Styrofoam to prove myself wrong. I want to be wrong at this point, but just curious if anyone else had the issue and it was something underneath.

So far each time I've had squeaks and rattles, it turned out to be something I'd caused. In the cargo area, I had put a small emergency kit (bandages and whatnot) into that storage pocket at the left corner near the bumper. Well the pocket is plastic, and the first aid kit was also hard plastic. So it would rattle sometimes. Very easy to fix, but it took me a bit to realize that was what had happened.

If I put glasses into the sunglasses holder, same thing happens sometimes. Or a flashlight in the glovebox, etc.

I cannot stand the noises, I will exhaust everything I have to make them go away lol. My partner drives over 70 one way to and from work and listens to audio books occasionally and has had to turn the volume up with how rough the roads can be in the Bay area here in NorCal.

update to this post, dealer is having an issue pinpointing the rattle as well. Thinks it could possibly be the TSB for the rear upper trailing arm. But still waiting for ordered parts to come in. Been almost a week now.

Interesting, mines been driving me crazy after the HVBJB replacement, too. I have nothing in my rear cargo area other than the Ford cargo mat, which is definitely not causing it. I've made sure all rear seats are properly secured, checked seat belts, trim pieces, everything. It is definitely from the suspension/wheels. Is it just some freak coincidence that both of us got it after the HVBJB replacement or can dropping the battery risk hitting other parts causing an issue?

The difficult part I am having is the dealer I work at did not do the HVJB since they wouldn't do the glass recalls either, we took it to another local dealer where we got it looked at fairly quick and repaired in a week. I am wondering the same thing now if it was something underneath that cannot be seen without taking the shields off etc. If it was a little easier to do, I would go back to the other dealer for the noise as well.
