So what is this for?

I was wondering the same thing, I mean if they give you a keyfob it might be where you can put it just in case its having difficulty connecting. I know with my chevrolet bolt ev it has a spot in the center console like this.

Does seem to be the proper size, but leave the key fob in the car? "pet mode."

Educated guess: it is a for keyfob but not for connecting - programming a new keyfob would involve placing it and two existing keyfobs into that pocket at the right time. That's how it is in my Fusion anyway and pretty sure in the gf's C-Max as well.

Not leave in the car its just in the case the car isn’t detecting key fob.

Im saying maybe its a place you place the keyfob if the car is having trouble detecting the keyfob. Thats how my bolt ev has it.

Ford, actually Lincoln, offer a beautiful blue color called "Blue Diamond". Is the Infinite Blue the same, just with a different name? The pictures I have seen indicate the Infinite Blue is more of a grey blue, or purplish blue. If so, I don't care too much for it.
Perhaps someone who has seen these Infinite Blue show cars can tell us if it is the Lincoln Blue Diamond color.
Lincoln offered Blue Diamond on many models thru 2020. BD is a diff paint code from the infinite blue being offered on 2021 Aviator.

IB on 2021 Ford MME & Explorer and Lincoln Aviator all use same paint code.

Yes, that’s exactly what it is. If the battery in the fob dies, you can put it there and still start the car. It uses NFC that doesn’t require the fob to be powered, but does require it to be very close to the NFC reader.

Good thing we can also just enter a pin code on the screen to start the car, if key fob or phone as a key aren't an option. Then along with the code that you can enter on the B pillar to unlock car, I probably won't ever need the key fob for anything!

I was all set to argue with you, since nothing in my Fusion's manual suggests that, but it does work that way - just tested it.

I know from experience and the manual that what I said about programming is also true in the Fusion (I programmed my own spare fob.) The NFC explanation would explain why.

So, likely both right. Won't know for sure until we have the car.

Yup, it’s redundancy upon redundancy in the Mach-E. I guess it gives you a last resort if you never set a PIN code and never paired a phone.

A owner's manual would be helpful right about now. It was noted it was load in the car so pdf it and send it around. If Ford releases it soon I can get the Cole notes off this forum ;).

I really hope we can at least get to the HTML files on the Owner web site or in the app at least. Not the same as dead trees, but would let us peruse at our leisure (and potentially generate said PDF).
