i’ve got a fun fact for ya‘ll here.

I have a 2022 Mach-e with the active park assist prep kit, and had been confused why the parking sensors only show the front and back. Missing the side sensing that’s shown on the diagram in the manual. After digging through the service manual, i found out that the “prep kit” is really just the installation of 4 additional ultrasonic sensors, one in each corner of the car right in front/behind the wheels; these are used for park assist and side sensing.

Unfortunately for us with the prep kit, side sensing is derived from these four additional sensors, steering angle and distance traveled, which our processing module does not support.

Also very unfortunate for those of us that want these features, the processing modules are pretty pricy and i would not expect the price to be anywhere near the credit we got for losing park assist. [see parts list - Electronics Package 5 is park assist capable]

for 2023 models, i’d expect these four additional sensors to be missing as they will no longer include the prep kit

This is stupid. Those sensors are helpful, even when not using active park assist.

Yeah. I’d have been okay with not having active park assist. But really bummed out we don’t get side sensing either.

How did you derive those are the parts missing for cars with the prep kit?

The OP says he found that information in the service manual.

why do you think your processing module would not support data from the other sources? It’s readily available. Has Ford also changed the module and/or software in addition to removing the sensors?

Wow. The 2023s are sounding worse and worse each week. I still firmly believe the Job 2 2021s are the best Mach-Es ever built, and apparently it’s going to stay that way. ?

As I noted elsewhere, Ford has always had a habit (even pre-COVID) of decontenting subsequent model years of new vehicles. I think they do it to remove features they think there is little or no demand for, so that they can optimize vehicle production cost. For example, go back through the earlier hands-free liftgate threads here and look at the number of people who either whined about how awful it is, or who couldn’t even master the motion required to use it. To be honest, if I was Ford, I’d be tempted to just pull it too.
What I would PREFER (and it will NEVER happen) would be for Ford to lump all that stuff into one or more packages so that those of us who want it can have it. Of course, that’s not happening either.

Ya but the parking sensors I actually use, a lot. So for me this is a significant loss. The park assist I like the idea of, but in reality I rarely use it. To lose the sensors is something that will make me rethink buying this car.

I haven't looked into what's involved yet cause I don't have skin in the game (I have a '21 Prem) but I was under the impression that it was the IPMA that did all the processing. So I'm not sure what's "missing" here. I don't know what would need to be added back to complete a car that had been 'decontented' (other than sensors I mean).

This reminds me that my first MachE, a MY21 Select AWD Job 2 has been amazing – except for the front camera fault – and the hands-free lift gate has worked for me and consistently once I learned that “left-right-left” foot dance under the license plate.

I just fell into a MY22 CA RT1 which will be my long-term driver (I “exchanged” my MY23 premium order for this unclaimed one at MSRP!), but I will always miss my first baby. #Job2ForLife

My job 1 2022 has everything my job 1 2021 had.

the module supporting active park assist is different it’s not a software toggle. (see parts list, there is one that is a few hundred cheaper - that’s the one we got without park assist. Same part num, diff package)
