I'd love to hear your feedback.

I’m undecided between the Mach-e and Model 3. The main factor steering me away from the latter is customer service or lack of it in the case of Tesla. With the Mach-e at least I will have a dealer that will answer the phone if things go wrong.

PS. I’m jealous that you actually got to sit in the car. When I went to see it we were only allowed to look through the windows.

Love this! You have a well-honed personality/voice and I think it’s hilarious you dish evenly - calling stereotypical Mustang buyers douches and Tesla a cult. Don’t agree with either assessments, but laughed in good fun anyways. Thanks for the post and video. Look forward to your driving impressions!

It was actually a lot roomier than I thought it would be, because of the electric powertrain I guess, and the dashboard is really nice, and the panoramic roof is the best part.

I'm really hoping I can wrangle a test drive soon.

@EVGRL What has it been like to drive a Leaf/EV in Dallas? I used to live across the I-20 in Shreveport and think of that whole Arklatex region when considering battery range and availability of charging options. Have you had any road trips to Austin or other areas? Or mostly just around town?

Hi Tish,

I saw your video on another EV blog and liked it quite a bit.

To be honest I like any Mach E/Model Y content because there isn't much new to talk about right now.

I agree with most of your points, but most of them are pretty subjective.

I like the styling of the Mach E better, and find the Model Y a little too "appliance" looking.

I like having Apple Car play and a "traditional" dashboard too.

Pricing for all EVs is confusing. Tax credits vary by state, Tesla's Federal credits are running out but state credits still exist.

Honestly in the end I like both, and am seriously considering buying both (for my wife and I) but things like no Apple Car play for the Model Y may be a deal breaker because she loves Waze so much. Also the learning curve for the Tesla is pretty high.

Opening the glove box through a menu is pretty ridiculous.

In the end don't worry too much about the downvotes. You got a cool personality and remind me of some of my friends, just make content you like.

I'm leaning towards the Tesla because the E does not matchup with the range for the long range AWD 3 and the Y. I haven't even decided whether I prefer the Y or the 3 yet and wont until I can actually see a Y. I'm still watching the E with interest.

Still, I realize that some of these specs are subject to change, so maybe there will be a closer spec from Ford. As I recall. the performance version of the E is only available with the small battery. For the moment you can only order the Y with long range AWD and the performance version of the latter config. I'm not interested in the +$60K version of any of them but range specs miss by a lot.

After watching the YouTube video posted here I have decided this person cannot make a objective comparison. She already hates Tesla because Elon Musk likes flame throwers. She also seems pleased to redefine the Mustang name into a CUV mommy machine from the rebellious super coupe it has become.

For me its cost versus features and performance and I am still trying to get the facts.

I don't dislike muscle cars and if I could have cars for occasions I suppose I would have one, but I don't want that many cars. So I need something the fits all occasions. Now will the image of the E be "I'm a racer" or will it just be a stylish car?

Hello Tish,

Congratulations for your fun video. I loved it. Having been one of the few people who's actually had a sit down in the Mach E, you are in the unique position of being able to answer a question that's been brought several times around the forum: what is the seating position like, how far off the ground does one sit? Is is closer to sedan or an SUV?

Thank you!

Tesla was targeting 280 miles, Ford is targeting 270. Tesla got through their "tweaks" and testing, and have come up with an EPA documented value of 315. Ford is 3 months behind in the process - they are still tweaking. To say that the mach E fails on specs is premature, because the "official" number hasn't arrived - only the value Ford considers the minimum target value. For all we know, the E will have 330 mile range. It could also be 200. When the "real" number comes out then you can make an informed decision, keeping in mind the EPA numbers are an approximation to "real world". Feel free to buy what you want, but deciding right now you are guessing.

Not all of this makes a lot of sense to me as a Model 3 owner. I agree blind spot alert could be better. Yep, no rear CTA. Nothing else you've said makes sense. Lane keeping and adaptive cruise control are both incredible. Phantom braking is easily fixed in the settings menu. You've got the collision avoidance set too high. Turn it down to the lowest setting. It's nice to have the conservative setting for those that want it.

Layout. Who needs to screw with the lights? They're automatic. If you want to manually turn them on, pull the left stalk towards you; no interaction with the touchscreen required. Same with the wipers. Automatic. Tap the button on the left turn stalk to turn them on if Auto doesn't bring them on in time for you. That will also bring up the menu for the wipers. No digging required. Mirrors? Tell the car to adjust the mirror. Besides which, you should really adjust your mirrors before you drive anyways. Shifting? What are you even talking about??? Shifting is done with the right stalk, not with the screen. I don't think anyone knows yet if the Y will have a rear wiper, let alone how it will be controlled. Given the angle of the rear window it may not be needed. I've never wished for one with my 3. (But I do Rain-X the rear window.)

There is actually a reason that the glove box can only be opened through the screen. Enabling "Valet Mode" prevents opening both the glove box and the frunk. This is really useful, and for me at least outweighs the minor inconvenience of two screen presses to open the glove box. That said, it would be nice if there was an icon on the main screen to open the glove box. Hopefully that will be added at some point, but not really a big deal.

I've driven both the S and the 3. TBH, I prefer the screen layout of the 3. Yes, it takes some getting used to, but once you do the side screen is preferable to every 3 driver I know. Not everyone, certainly. But with the 3, all you really need is range and speed. I can check those on the center screen just as quick as with a screen in front of me. Once you get used to it, it's rather nice not to have the distraction of a lit up screen right in front of you at night. I find the horizontal layout of the 3 screen easier to read than the vertical screen in the S. The screen in the S is annoying in that the lower left corner goes right where my right knee wants to go. I did not get to sit in the driver's seat of the Mach E, so I don't know if that will be an issue with the Ford.

I'm trying to decide if I want a Y or a Mach E. I'll probably get a Y, since it will be here in a few weeks. But I'll happily trade it in if the E is better. I do like the muscle car styling of the E slightly better than the elegance of the Y. (BTW, they both look a lot better in person than in pictures or video.) The Ford "Rapid Red" is a way better red then the Tesla counterpart. I hope the E will equal the driving experience of the Tesla, because I seriously doubt they'll beat it. I see lot's of talk about how everything needs to be done through the screen. Not true. Everything I need to control while driving I can control without ever taking my hands off of the wheel or my eyes off of the road. It wasn't this way with the 3 at first, but it is now.

I didn't find the video very helpful. Other than Styling and comfort, the video didn't really cover anything at all. (Except for a few uninformed and questionable opinions.) Styling I have to agree with the young lady. That's a personal thing and everyone is going to have their own correct opinion. Everything else, meh. My guess is she sat in an early Tesla when she said the seats weren't comfortable. (Obviously she has never sat in a Y.) The earlier seats weren't the best. Now though? The seats in my 3 are the most comfortable seats I've ever sat in. Seriously. Better than the E. (At least the E prototype, who knows what will be in the production version.) But if Ford ponies up air conditioned seats that could be a game changer right there.
