Issues with charging on the Mustang Mach-E

If the app is set to "Charge when plugged in" you cannot set a "MAX CHARGE LEVEL". I have tried this and been chastised on this forum and told that you have to set a "Set my own time". SO, I set the charge time to 1pm-12pm. OK, but now I come home at 12:00 Noon and plug the car in BUT I have to wait unit 1:00 P.M. for the charging to start. On the main page there is a banner at the bottom "WAITING TO CHARGE Estimated finish ... 08:49 PM Wednesday Details". If I press the Details button I get the "CHARGE SESSION" page and the only option available is "Charge to 100%"

WHY CAN'T I TELL IT TO START CHARGING NOW????????????

Why is the option to charge to 100% there (which is NOT recommended by Ford) but not an option to start charging now. Remember the "Charge when plugged in" does not respect the selected Max charge.

Before you chastise me for the times I have set, there is a reason. There have been times when I come home at 2:00 or 3:00 A.M. due to travel and need until 1:00 PM to get a charge to 80%.

I agree the app has some issues that change with each update.

  • If you need to charge, then you will just have to hit the Charge to 100% button, which acts as the start charging immediately button. Of course though, this will charge until 100% if you leave it.
  • Other option is to go to Vehicle -> Charging -> Charge Settings -> Preferred Charge Times and then change Use preferred charge settings to Charge when plugged in. Don't forget to switch it back if you want to resume scheduling.
Personally I just have charging enabled 24/7 up to 90%. Doesn't take me much effort to go plug in the car when I want to start charging. It's like needing to charge my phone.

Why did you set 1:00 to 12:00 instead of 24/7?

Yeah that or change your gap hour to a time when you never get home.

Also, is it the end of the world if the car doesn’t charge fully to 80% every day? You will probably catch up the next day if you run out of charging time.

I have mine set to 11 PM to 11AM to avoid peak times. If I come home late at night it will still mostly finish by 11AM, so I don’t really care that it’s a bit short of the target.

Where is the 24/7?????

Because when I had it set to "Charge when plugged in" it IGNORED the 90% max charge.

Please re-read my original post. It explains the reasons.

Does the app now respect the Charge Limit when "Charge when plugged in". It did not as recently as two weeks ago. I was chastised on this board about not setting "Use preferred charge settings" and setting a time range.

It would be helpful if when updates are done that issues that were corrected are mentioned. The phrasing

"Some minor fine-tuning so your vehicle can easily install the more detailed updates coming down the road. ..."

You can select “Use preferred charge settings” and set it to “Anytime” instead of setting specific times. That’s all I’ve ever done.

I set mine to both start and end at 12am. Still a charge schedule so the charge limit is used, but it charges whenever.

So I have a time range set for Weekdays but left Weekends at "Anytime."

I can't for the life of me figure out how to revert my weekday time range back to "Anytime."

I suspect I can delete the location and add it back but I don't want to try that until after I'm home and can re-establish the location.

I can't get Fordpass to even switch to "Charge when plugged in" for my home location at the moment. Weird.

I find it obnoxious that the "charge to 100%" button on the app overrides the set charging schedule. I need to charge to 100% instead of 80% about twice a month. It can reach 100% charge if it waited to charge within the off peak hours but instead it starts charging immediately. To not pay even more for electricity but reach 100%, I would have to either change the preferred settings and change back tomorrow or wake up later tonight and press "charge to 100%". Isn't there a smarter way?

I just push the button when I get up in the morning before a trip. Don't usually get all the way to 100% but high 90's works well enough.

Frank,
I think you may be confusing “charge when plugged in” and “anytime.”

Start with “Charge Settings”
Next “Preferred Charge Times”
Now, you should see your location “Home” with a caret on the right. Underneath location “Home” there is you home address and below that are two choices with radio buttons: “Charge when plugged in”
and “Use preferred charge settings.”
Select the second one, “Use preferred charge settings.”

Now select the address under location “Home” by tapping the address line. That brings you to a new page. Now, on that page you can select a charge level and when to charge under “Preferred Charge Times.” The default here should be “Anytime.” Leave it that way. If there is already a time set, delete it.

Select the dark blue “Save” button at the bottom and you should be good to go.

The key is to not use “Charge when plugged in” and to use “anytime” on the time setting screen.

Hope that solves your problem.

Good luck.
