Thinking about picking up a First Edition with 17k mi. I’ve seen lots of pictures and videos of the car but won’t get to check it out in person for a few days. Any suggestions for particular things to look out for? According to its carfax, it may still need the glass recall addressed and the extra key fob.

Being a First Edition, it should come with a pony statue and VIN plate.

I would not want a First Edition unless it has been fully updated, every single module. Otherwise you are asking for all kinds of software issues with it. BlueCruise may not even work.

You will have a hard time getting the glass recall done. If that bothers you then don't buy it, get a newer one.

The last issue is that of the HVBJB. If it hasn't been replaced yet, the HVBJB will likely go bad in the first 25k miles. So expect a week or two of being in the shop when that happens. Again, if that bothers you then buy one that has had the part replaced or built since May 25, 2022.

Other than those issues, it should be fine.

I am not sure I agree with this at all. The software was really very good on my First Edition when first delivered. The various software issues started to appear when then OTAs started.

There is nothing different about a First Edition that makes the windshield any harder to replace than any other trim.

If the HVBJB is likely to fail within 25k miles then I should be on my 3rd one by now.

Should the HVBJB recall or whatever be listed on the vehicle's history?

The campaign is a software patch. It was available via OTA or could be dealer installed. The vehicle history in the Ford system will show when and how it was installed. If you are buying the car from a dealer then they are required to install that software before selling it.

Were all 21s hit with it? I just spoke with the dealer and they say this one wasn't included in the battery recall.

I don't remember for sure. I think it was all North America cars built before a certain date. All First Editions would be in that category. If you post the VIN then there are folks on here that can look it up for you and possibly get you some history.

It’s not a battery recall. It’s a software patch recall to help lessen the condition that a blown HVBJB will leave you stranded on the side of the road. The hardware part is NOT part of the recall; it will get changed only after it’s died and left you hanging, and yes, all Mach-Es made before (May, I think?) of this year need/should have gotten it.

It’s a tow plus at least a couple of weeks in the shop to get the part in and have it replaced. (The new part is apparently much more robust and it shouldn’t happen again afterward.) The problem is that there’s much more than a non-zero chance of happening at some point sometime. I worry about mine every time I get into the car, unfortunately.

However, if you can find someone with the cables to patch it up to current, or if the dealer will ACTUALLY do it for you (and they probably won’t but will lie about it), then I’d say you’d be okay as long as you know that it will most likely need the HVBJB repaired at some unknown time.

That would be awesome, I appreciate anyone who could help!

Honestly the battery issue doesn't worry me too much if it is something Ford is standing behind and absolutely will fix at their expense if or when it needs it. Admittedly I haven't had a lot of time to dig through this forum to get all the details about the battery issue so I appreciate you all clarifying for me, a question I'm sure has been asked a thousand times.

I don't have PTS account any longer so I can't look up your VIN but someone else here should be able to help if they run across this thread.

There isn't a battery issue (well not directly anyway....). It is a junction box that is contained inside the battery pack. The junction box has some switches inside that can fail and cause problems. The electric drive train (which includes that junction box) is covered under the 8yr/100k mile warranty so if your car has any issues in that time frame then it's covered.

When I traded in my FE, I kept the pony statue.
Maybe someday these will be collectible and if so, then that might be worth a nice penny!

I try and let everything go with the car when I sell them off. I am hoping my next EV arrives before end of the year so I can put the First Edition in the Jan auction but it's not looking promising.
When it goes across the block, the statue and booklet will be with the car since that will likely add some value. Of course you never know. The market speaks in unexpected ways sometimes....

It looks like 22S41 was done on this vehicle 26 Jul 2022, probably OTA rather than at a dealer if I'm understanding what I'm seeing.

21S42, 21C22, 21P22, and 22B10 are all showing as outstanding on this vehicle.

Thank you so much for checking in on that for me! Is this something you're able to see because you have access to some kind of system, or is that information available somewhere to the public?

Also, if 22S41 has been accomplished already, that's a good thing right? Shouldn't have anything to worry about regarding the HVBJB?
