From what I understand and thanks for someone running my VIN in FDRS, there are module updates that haven’t made it into OTA updates yet. I asked the dealer to install them while putting all seasons on my car.

unsurprisingly they said there are no updates and have not been helpful. I called BEV team and they are trying to help but also saying no updates. Am I missing something? An unreasonable ask? Was hoping the entry exit and wireless charger Updates could be applied.

this forum is so helpful but having more info than ford and the dealer may not be so good :)

module updates aren't ones they can just do, it has to be part of a recall or TSB

There’s an exception to this: if you’re willing to pay for them to do the updates.

Ohhh. That sucks. Thanks for the info! I guess I have to wait which is annoying. And now getting the “things getting worse” update experience. Like CarPlay now not working. Sigh maybe I’ll turn off automatic updates.
@Ford Motor Company please get your updates tested and solid. I love the car and yeah software is a problem. But my phone getting a bug is not the same as suddenly not able to open the door to your car or the entire screen crashing

oh I see. They didn’t even ask to make me pay. They just say no updates. So I should just get an FDRS account and apply updates myself? :). Anyone in Long Island who wants to share a license? :)

If something isn’t working on your car, they will do updates to solve the problems under warranty.

Just recently I spoke with my EV Tech (20+ years Master Technician) about this issue. He told me just because it shows updates available, don't do it!

He says Ford went the low bid route on the modules and they come from many different manufactures. There is a lot of back-and-forth finger pointing on software incompatibility among modules. The only modules that SHOULD be updated will be done when there is a TSP, Recall, etc.

Also, as others have stated, Ford will only pay them when it is an official repair. Just updating modules can take 1 hour, 10 hours, or more that you would need to pay for, if they would do it at all.

Hogwash. It makes sense that he would say that since the dealers don’t get paid for updates if there isn’t a matching bulletin. But that doesn’t mean anyone shouldn’t do available updates themselves if they have the equipment and know how.

If something isn’t working, you bring the vehicle to the dealer and have them fix it. That’s different from “hey, some dude on the internet said all the modules on my car aren’t at the latest version - update them”.

agreed. But when ford can’t adequately apply updates I figured the dealer could apply them. Since it’s kind of annoying that the seats sometimes work, the wireless charger overheats, now wireless CarPlay doesn’t work and profiles are stuck on guest. I’m patient but I also expect ford to get their act together since the car has been out over 2 years.

also interesting that when I called ford’s BEV team and asked them to check/work with dealer to apply updates, they mentioned “the Recall has been applied and resolved but some people still get an error and if you do, take it to the dealer immediately because some people may still get an error”. Nothing about a bad part that should be replaced pretty much on all cars. The fact that they know it will eventually fail is an unsatisfactory recall remediation as mentioned on this forum ad nauseam.

im in tech. I get bugs. But if they don’t have the OTA stabilized by the time my ford options is up in 2 years I will not be getting another ford.

Well as has been stated...if you have a valid concern and that concern can be matched with an available update that would address that concern, then Ford will pay your dealership's tech the labor to update it. If they still don't want to take you seriously then you should find a better dealer and leave a one star review for that one.

Yes. OTAs are few and far between and often address things that are likely to increase Ford's revenue stream instead of correcting or enhancing vehicles. (Looking at you Alexa...)

Yup 100%. And I blame the dealer and not surprised with how they treated me. I’m hoping if I need to go back to dealer I will be able to go to a different one.

this dealer seams to not care about reviews - when they didn’t return my calls for a status and waited till 5:00 to tell me they didn’t get to my car to replace the tires (not a huge effort) they didn’t care when I said I would leave a poor review.

anyways thanks Mike for running my VIN. Super helpful!

And when things go off the rail messing with updates you will be demanding Ford fix your mess for free under warranty?

If Ford’s software that they legally sold to me and authorized me to use messes up the car? You betcha! But if you’re worried about such things, don‘t do it.
