CarPlay is a hot pile of potential. Whether in my previous i3 or in the Mach E, it’s just flaky. Give us native Spotify and call it good.
Funny thing we rented a Toyota Corolla for vacation last week and the only thing it had was CarPlay and it worked via USB. It was still super slow connecting, just like our Mach E so I think it's just the way CarPlay works. ?‍♂
We also just purchased a 2024 Bronco Sport for our daughter a couple of weeks ago and it is slow to connect via USB but not as bad as the Toyota we rented or the Mach E.
We have iPhone 16s running the latest iOS 18.5 (also in beta program and update often)

When the sound fails during wireless CarPlay, I turn off and then on the wifi on my iphone. This fixes it.

Anyone know a cleaner hack for this problem?

You just have to jiggle CarPlay’s handle or smack the side of the dashboard or burn some sage.

This used to work, but it stopped working a month or so it stopped, but we found the old way worked 99% of the time.
Old way - Stop the car, shut off, then open and close the door. Start the car again and wait for it to reconnect, then drive off. Sound restored
We bought our 2025 Rally a few weeks ago now, and knock on wood, it's been working except a few delays connecting when first starting the car. We have stopped waiting and just start driving and it has been connecting without sound loss.
It's mostly fixed in the TSB I re-posted. My local dealership applied it. I do still occasionally have some funkiness. I complained about the service (car was dirty with garbage left in it), didn't tell me I had to completely setup my car again as if I just bought, etc. The service manager called me and said they can't have a rating less than 5. I told him I was interested in the new Sync 5 beta, and he said could potentially facilities getting it. Hopefully, Sync 5 is solid.

I get that often. Started a few months ago. The soft reset of ”next track-volume down 10 seconds“ work almost every time. I have to remember to turn the volume back up because the reset outs the volume at 0. Good luck!
The fastest way is to change the phone connection to Bluetooth and then back to CarPlay.

Are you using wired or wireless CarPlay? If wired, what kind of cable are you using?
Most of the time wireless. I use cable to charge only, and it typically doesn't make a difference. If sound is not working, for example, it will not work if I switch to the cable as well.

Dealership said that "you have to use the original Apple cable", idk, I'm using an Anker cable, but I was using the original Apple cable before, and I haven't noticed any difference.

I'm fixing the sound issue with wifi on/off or restarting the sync, so far it fixes the issue most of the time. A couple of times, I had to restart the car to get the sound back.

Also, sometimes GPS freezes in the middle of driving, but I'm not sure if it is a car problem or a general iPhone problem.

Usually first report of needing the service triggers coverage by warrantees, even if repairs take place later. I don't know how that works for Ford.

That works well. I update my 2022 MME about every 1-2 months with FDRS. After the GWM & APIM update that appeared in Mar/Apr'25 my wife & I no longer had any Carplay issues (touch wood) or the PAAK function (I never use FOB)

I would expect so, as small in data size, didn't take long to install. These updates also fixed the Carplay quirks we were both having in our 2024 Corsair GT.
Having to do that circumvention of selecting phone first, then carplay on the Synch panel was getting annoying.

Someone in the forum is in the beta program and got it. I'm not sure what model year the person has.

I'm still having the no-audio issue, even with the TSB fix. i.e., no music through CarPlay, although the radio FM stations work just fine. Restart the car, and it's working again.

Thanks for sharing that tidbit - I appreciate the awareness! On topic: I hope that everyone's CarPlay issues can be hashed out by Ford's devs (for those things that are in their control -- maybe they can explain where they are not)..
