Porschephile "purists" decried the stretched-up 911 based Cayenne when first introduced. That brand sells more SUVs than cars now. That and the exclusivity and availability of a Porsche trademark. Wonders me if this is the Ford marketing strategy ?
I think it is and the rumors are going strong that that there will be a Corvette suv soon. If the Mustang Mach E goes well who knows it maybe a EV also.

Just visited the Mustang sub Reddit. I am stifling nearly uncontrollable laughter at how they're reacting to this. NOT MAH 'STANG. Suprised they haven't started a twitter hashtag yet. #notmahstang
Probably the same ones who cried when Mustang went IRS over live axle and they all have s550 Mustangs now.

I would most likely assume so. One of the comments even mentioned how he tolerated when ecoboost came about and was an option, but a mustang SUV? Oh, he adamantly disagreed with that idea. I can't wait to buy my blasphemy vehicle and eat mustangs. I guess I should clarify, ICE mustangs. Or is it legacy mustangs? :p

 I think a lot of them are probably secretly threatened by what should be very strong Mach E specs when they're announced on Sunday night. And what most Mustang owners don't realize is that for the Mustang to stick around at all as a nameplate/model, it likely has to become its own brand like what Chevy is rumored to be doing with the Corvette. It's the only passenger car left in Ford's lineup so it already had a questionable long term life expectancy. If the Mustang Mach E is successful it guarantees the Mustang ICE/hybrid sports coupes will stick around!

For sure. I'm glad to see them pass/spread the torch/flame to a worthy successor. It's going to be on my living room tv being chromecasted during dinner, so hopefully it's a good show for the family! My wife is going to hate me lol

I'm honestly enjoying the controversy of Ford calling it a Mustang.

If Ford called this a "RWD, electric Mustang wagon," enthusiasts would be champing at the bit. But because it's called a CUV, they hate it.

Such a weird disconnect between the enthusiasts that idolize performance wagons yet despise their lifted CUV cousins.

Performance CUVs are the future of practical performance cars (because Americans will actually buy them, unlike wagons).

No they'd still hate it because it's four doors even if it was a two door wagon they wouldn't like it, well maybe if it was called a shootingbrake.

The last limited edition Mustang was the 50th Anniversary S550. Special badges, choice of two colors (Wimbledon White or Kona Blue) and numbered interior plate. Ford only produced 1,964 of them as a nod to the original introduction year. It was the only V-8 Mustang, at the time, you could get the Performance Package with an auto.
I owned a LE in WW Auto+PP. I replaced (Saved) the stock wheels so I wouldn't ruin them since I used it as a DD.

I don't have a problem with it being called Mustang. It's cues are directly from Mustang so it'd actually be odd not to call it that. Those that won't buy it will not be basing their decision because of its called Mustang.

Bold move, yes. I had the same problem with Panarema and Cayenne borrowing too much from the 911. My problem was that that design philosophy didn't suit the sedan/coupe or SUV. In my view, anyway. The difference with Machstang is it looks great and well-proportioned.

Performance probably matches the gorgeous Urus in terms of acceleration and with torque vectoring it should provide handling dynamics that belies its weight.

So, if it truly follows the Mustang philosophy, it should also be priced competitively. Giving the masses access to a gorgeous, powerful, sporty vehicle is what Mustang is about.

No matter what a manufacture does there are always going to be people that will not be best pleased with name choices or associations.

As ford has decided to no longer cater to my tastes in vehicles on my side of the pond was I annoyed at them sticking ST on the Edge & Explorer, from a naming perspective not really but having taken the Edge ST for a test drive. My annoyance was more down to it being a half arsed effort, if you are going to use the ST badge then it comes with certain expectations which the Edge ST failed at miserably.

With the Mach-e being the only vehicle in Ford USA line up I have any interest in it will be interesting to see the final version, the associating with the mustang has me concerned more with the styling the spy pics are never going to do it any favors but I like the front its the how well the mustang style rear lights are integrated as it it could look good or an after thought requiring a early refresh. I am more interested in one as a to become by daily commuter rather than out and out performance.

Of course as it the way of these things once a reveal gets close you can start poking around the website so you can already see the specs & prices early lol and of the 5 trims only the GT will be the high performance version and the range hit doesn't appear that bad.
