Yes 100%. It's just been a multi week search and I thought I found one. Wait I did, but then I didn't.
This happened to me more times than I'd like to admit since March. I finally found one at Sunnyvale Ford in NorCal. When i got there they marked the car up by 10k - I showed them the article about ford cracking down on the dealer upcharge and after a ton of back and forth they split the difference with me. I dont feel good about paying an extra 5k, but I really wanted to car, so here we are.

Any new car delivered and purchased by 12/31/2022 (or that binding contract stuff Rivian, Fisker, etc. all did) model year doesn't matter...

I don't know... with the 2023 GTPE going to like $78k or something and possibly only getting half the tax credit amount, If you could get this one for $78k and the full tax credit... I'd take it. See if they'll knock a bit more off.
10k over makes it 83k+. Completely eliminates the tax incentive. These markups kill the Tex incentives the feds are giving out. Since when did paying over MSRP become a good deal- it never did and it wont ever. It's only a matter of time that cars will be offered at or below MSRP and I won't be the one holding the bag in 12-18 months when models are sitting on dealer lots for MSRP. These conditions are only temporary. Paying dealer markups is for suckers especially given another .75 interest rate hike. People won't be buying these cars at a markup let alone MSRP in a matter of months. The house of cards is falling.

Sooo frustrating! 5k over is pretty good especially if you got it in state and can utilize the state tax incentive. There's two identical GTPE in napa for 15k over. Best they will do is 12k. We're only a few months away from 2023. Who would buy a 2022 with a markup? Not me. I'm sure some would but I'm not that guy.

Are you specifically looking for the GTPE? If not, I have a premium RWD SR in grabber blue, gray interior on order that I'll be releasing back to the dealership soon with a build date of 11/21. They said if I found someone to take over to let them know they would not charge a mark up or anything and also offer whatever incentives are available at the time at MSRP. Said they'd allow out of state purchase, but not red carpet lease or options and won't be price protected. They were really good to me and didn't play games. It sucks they pulled that on you, I had the same thing happen at other dealerships before the '23 order banks opened so I waited. Mine had someone walk away from the one I took delivery of a week or so ago and didn't mark it up, gave X-plan, etc.

Ugh. Sorry to hear it, but at least not too much invested. I was chatting online with a few local dealerships who had white Premiums on their lots and at least every one of them was up front bout their ADM ($5k). I just immediately said no thanks (had a car on order). But I understand that feeling of "crap! I found one!" only to...not have found one.

Good luck with your search

Thanks for the sentiment. Trying to lock one down before Xmas. I think dealers will relinquish their markups once 2023 is closer....only a matter a weeks.??

Just a reminder on how you qualify for the pre Build Back Better AKA Deficit Reduction EV federal credit...you had to have a binding contract with the dealer before Biden signed that legislation into effect. Binding contract means you already had given the dealership at least a 5% non refundable deposit. For a 70k car that would be 3500 dollars nonrefundable already paid several months ago.

I was under the impression the mach e was assembled in North America, which means it does qualify for the tax credit. So long as I purchase the vehicle before the first of the year.

Uh, no. That only applies to cars built outside of North America since they don't qualify as of the date the bill was signed. The MME was built in Mexico, so it qualifies for the full credit through the end of this year. Next year is a different story.

Just order a 2023 at MSRP and wait a few months.

Yes, which is why I said shoot for $78k, see if they'll budge off it. You're not really looking at the numbers right. The GTPE is going to be like $78k for 2023 and only get a $3,750 tax credit. So that's $74,250 before taxes, fees, etc.

This one at $83k is more than an MSRP 2023 with half the credit, but, even at $80k, you come out slightly ahead as opposed to going for a 2023 ($72,500).

The above is exactly why it CAN make sense to pay ADM on a 2022. due to the crazy high price increase and tax credit halving. The only advantage of getting a 2023 is the updated BlueCruise, but hopefully '21s and '22s get that as well.

I'll take my chances. I've got a few weeks before the first of the year. I can find a better deal, I am certain of it. And fyi- where is the cost of shipping included here in your calculations? It's around 2k for shipping. And another note, if I purchase in my state, I would get a 2k tax credit. So you're not really looking at the entire picture here. If I ordered a 2023 in state I would be far ahead compared to this vehicle. The only reason why I don't order one is I'm looking to get this before Xmas. it makes zero sense to pay out of state dealer markup. Add shipping and minus a tax incentive? No thanks. Id hate to pay markup now on a 2022 and see a 2022 on a lot in a few months at or belowMSRP. It will happen. Markets been cooling and the feds just tacked on .75 interest. It doesn't not make any sense to lay dealer markup, at least from a macro view. ??‍♂

Holy cow, I'm just trying to give you another perspective. Don't post on a forum if you literally want no responses.
