It’s 2022……. Anyone figured out a workaround or settings to make this work?

How it usually goes:

I’m on the phone, I walk up and get in the car. I start the car.

Then I have to apologize to whoever is on the phone for the next minute or so as the phone and the car go back and forth deciding who should control the phone call.

Usually the car picks up right away, no delay……. For maybe 5 seconds. Then it goes back to the phone and the radio starts playing on the car. Then there’s a few seconds where I can’t hear the call and the person on the other end can’t hear me, then the car takes over for a 2nd time or I get frustrated and force the call by hitting a button on my phone to stay on the phone.

iPhone 13.

Any ideas?

You can give call routing a go. Settings > type routing into search > call audio routing should be top, select it > click call audio routing at the bottom > change from automatic to Bluetooth and see if it fixes the back and forth fight and just instantly relinquishes control.

I’ll give that a try. My expectations are low since I can’t even get the car to quit reverting to guest profile and refusing to let me pick a profile without a sync reset.

Does you car act differently when you get in the car when already on a phone call?

Before all the profile issues and CarPlay syncing issues, it was pretty seamless. Once the Sync system booted up from initial turn on, it’d keep the phone as the speaker and then CarPlay would connect and it would switch, no back and forth.

Now, it seems to hold the Bluetooth connection when I first get in so it’ll ping pong a bit like you’ve experienced until CarPlay finally connects, if it does. Sometimes it just obviously bugs where my phone is using wifi even though CarPlay never ultimately connects. I do still get the occasional seamless connect, but it’s rare.

Dumb question-

Where is the search? I can’t find that setting and don’t see a search box when I click on settings.

It's above the top of the main settings screen. Old version of iOS, but it's in the same place:
