I recently moved from a J1 2021 to a J2 2022 and I thought I knew about all the changes, but I discovered this one last night. See the video below (passenger recording) you can see the high beam icon come on in the instrument cluster as the road gradually gets brighter.

In my 2021 the auto high beams would cut on, but in the 2022 they fade on. It’s a small change, but it makes the feature work way better. Before when they would cut on, occasionally the high beams would come on and then a car would come in to view causing them to quickly turn off. The result was it looked like I flashed my high beams. Now with the fade on that won’t happen. It also less jarring while driving.
Good job @Ford Motor Company on this subtle, but helpful, improvement.

What's with the rounded corners on CarPlay though?

?
Yeah I don’t know, it’s an Apple thing. I don’t know why they do that.

Huh, mine don't fade. I'm a Jan build. You must have newer HCM software.

Mine have always been very subtle in the change from low to high, to the point that I would look at the dash symbol to confirm they were on. Mid July 2022 build date.

@Mach-Lee I was wondering if this was all 2022s or just the job 2s. Based on what @Mrn said it sounds like it was a late model year update.

I thought that was pretty cool. Wish I could get my F-150 to do it like that.

I agree the fade on is nicer. I have that in my Lightning. I wonder if that is just software control?

So it's just software?
I’m guessing it’s just software. Maybe a tweak can be made in FORscan.
I would think any 2021/22 could be updated to the newer version if Ford released it for their VIN.

Lightning does that.

It also has the fogs that follow the curves in the road.

That's so weird - I swear my Job1 2021 did the fade up/instant down on the headlamps - but that just could be the old Mandela effect and old age kicking in LOL

My Feb 2022 build definitely has it though - could it be linked to the actual headlamp units though?

We have two variants here - the standard LED lights with no adaptive functionality (and no three bar stripes), and the premium LED lights which are fully adaptive and will create a 'cut out' in the high beam for passing vehicles (no dip required)

Maybe that's contributing to the difference? (don't doubt software plays a part too)

I don't know if it's the headlight style. My 2021 J1 was a premium and had the 3 vertical stripe accents. My husband has a 2021 J2 Premium, same headlight design, and his cut on and off. There could be some behind the scenes hardware change that allows for the fade on the 2022 J2s, but they are LEDs so it should just be a matter of software. I guess we could look and see if the headlight assembly for the 2022 J1 and 2022 J2 are the same part number.

I wonder if this is affected by BCM updates?
