The software updates failed today when manually triggered.
Hence the car was going to run the update at 11pm.
At 11:09 it started to sound the alarm, honking horn and flashers going.
This is now going on for 10 minutes.
Any thoughts?

Use your fob or your door code to make the honking and flashing stop.

This happened during one of the updates to my car, too, about half a year ago or so. I happened to be standing nearby so I stopped the honking immediately.

I only use my PAAK, so didn’t think about FOB.
And wit my the screen saying to not use the car, did not think of door code…

? new fear unlocked. Smoke detectors doing this was bad enough that I replaced them all with ones that didn't make noise without alerting my phone first. Now I have this to worry about when I get mine delivered. Let me wake up to this shit in the middle of the night. My PTSD could never. ☠

You set the update schedule to your preference... So maybe set it while you're awake, like in the middle of the day. I have mine set for around 3 am.

But the other thing is that when an overnight update is pending, there is a notification in-vehicle and in FordPass. From within the vehicle, you can tell it to start the update as soon as you've turned off the vehicle and exited, rather than making it wait for it's pre-scheduled time. This is how I happened to be standing next to the vehicle when the tamper alarm went off.

Ooh. Thanks for the info. I'll definitely keep this in mind. I appreciate not startled to the point of my soul leaving my body. ? I hope you/others don't have any further issues like this. It sounds awful.

I often use PaaK too... But in this case I had instructed the vehicle to start an update as soon as I turned off the car after arriving home from work.

I was curious to see what it did, since there have been very few of these sorts of updates where the car must inhibit access for several minutes while certain modules are programmed. So I was just standing nearby watching through the window like a good nerd. ;)

Anyway, I was a few feet from the driver door when the alarm triggered so I just figured the door code was probably the fastest way to disable it rather than running inside the house for a key or futzing with my phone. Luckily that worked! I was notified via FordPass that the vehicle's alarm was triggered.

During the update the 12V battery gets drained and there are lots of modules being turned on and off. Since there's a lot going on, sometimes a small glitch or low battery voltage can trigger the alarm to go off. This is really just an annoyance from the update process and not anything serious.

I highly suggest you drive or charge the car for at least 2 hours post update to recharge the 12V battery, that will help minimize post-update weirdness.

If the alarm keeps going off during the night or early morning, you will need your door modules updated by your dealer.
