So this happened to my 3-week old '22 Premium.

When the heavy winds brought the artic air to the east coast last Friday. In my driveway supposedly safe & sound but for overhanging limbs from the neighbor's tree. Insurance will cover but soonest Ford-certified shop appt is 2 weeks out. Hopefully replaceable & not totaled!

Damn sorry about that OP. This is why I store the pony in the shed during the winter. Winds get crazy around this time here. Don't have trees close by but I see my neighbors trash can always flying around everywhere.

Yeah- unfortunately no shelter available, but the street is safer from overhead limbs. I'll post about the prognosis/repair when I know more.

We can relate, 3 weeks ago we had a collision. Normally this would probably be fixed by now. But parts are hard to get and EXPENSIVE. The parts estimate for this insurance repair is already at $18k and growing. We may get the car back in mid or late January, maybe . . . . The photo on the right is current status at the body shop the one on the left is right after the accident. If the body shop guys can get the parts, it would be finished in just a few days.

PS - If you wreck a Mach E, you are going to be perhaps stressed out. #1, you must find a body shop that is "certified" to work on aluminum stuff. #2. After the body work is done, the entire sensor array must be recalibrated and that will take a certified Ford EV tech with the right tools. #3. The body shop will have to get up to speed on all of the unique idiosyncrasies of fixing a Mach E. i.e. OSHA High Voltage safety requirements to Paint Booth maximum temp limites, etc. "This is not a car, it is a laptop on wheels."

We are lucky, the body shop guys are taking on the challenge, they are fully engaged, they find it an interesting challenge because they have never fixed one like this before. They are doing research, presenting questions to Ford, etc. these guys are great.

I appreciate the sympathy! And sending some to RWG. I'm hoping the absence of electronics in the roof will bode well for repair & recovery. The car started & moved well without any alarms going off. Hoping this turns out like one of those stories about someone being shot in the head but the bullet missed all the vital parts of the brain... I choose optimism!

This sucks, but if you had a solid roof that repair would be exponentially worse and more expensive. Tell us how everything goes and what was involved when the nightmare is over.

I think the repair should very straightforward. Getting parts will be the challenge.

Damn, that hurts.

Wondering it a non glass roof would have made any difference ?

It probably would have bent the roof framing, possibly A and B pillars. Glass roof was a very good thing in this case IMO.

We should also consider what would have happen if the car had been occupied when this happened. Would someone have been injured by the branch penetration? Would the branch bend but not break a metal roof?

The branch barely entered the cabin- you can see how much in the interior shot from below of the cracked glass (torn header fabric). There was a very small spray of fine glass shards in the passenger seat. Would've been terrifying but not bloody (depending on what the driver- me!- wouldve done next!)
