I was debating if I should pickup my 2023 Mach E, scheduled to arrive dealer in 10 days, with this, now I am going to walk away, my msrp is $58K, even if I am price protected it still won't qualify.

Ironically, the Escape is up to $80k and Mach E and Lincoln Corsair are both $55k.

Tesla Model Y 7 seaters is $80K limit, which wil cost $70k, after the $7500, it will cost $62.5k, better option now, more range and seats.

I also have an ID4 Pro, that's a $42.5K it also will qualify, this will probably the one I'll pick.

It's a tax incentive, you have to pay taxes to get a refund, I agree with everything you said above, govt only drive the prices up.

The problem with the public, is they want those who are minimum wage afford $70k car in a way or another, what's next?

You have to supply the make, model, price, and VIN. Intentionally trying to claim a tax credit that you know you don’t qualify for is tax fraud. It’s hard to claim you didn’t know when the IRS provides a clear list.
Especially when you post it on a public forum?

My California registration of my 2021 MME says it is a "Truck" and I paid a $750 renewal fee for 2023. The world of bureaucracy is pretty confusing isn't it?

Interesting read on why the Mach-E and others did or didn't qualify.

The ID.4 is a pig. It's built a tad too heavy IMO. They bumped the ground clearance and added weight to an already fat car with a steel hood.

Crazy how you can lighten an EV (i.e Tesla Model Y) and get punished for it.

Mach-E GTs would need raised suspension to be classified as an SUV which makes sense. The current config is too much of a hatchback with the lowered suspension.

Why don't you see if Ford RCL, US Bank, or Ally (lease) might have changed their terms where they have the option to pass the $7500 to you ?

The new IRA allows for commercial companies (like leasing companies) to get the tax credit and the option to credit back the customer either in a direct cap cost reduction or reduced MF/increased RV.

Even if you can lease a Mach-E... doesn't mean you can keep it. Ally and US Bank with Jeep 4xE leases make buyouts expensive (supposedly charge market rates) so it

I saw that the IRS is inviting tax payer feedback on the new EV credit. It has instructions on who to email and what has to be included in the Subject line.

https://www.federalregister.gov/doc...lug-in-electric-drive-motor-vehicle#addresses

TO: [email protected]

SUBJECT: OMB Control No. 1545-2137

Might be worth letting them know your thoughts on the current MSRP limit...
Matthew thanks for sharing this, Here is an email I just sent, and hope others follow suit. If they are asking for feed back, let's give it to them:

Dear Andres,

I've been an advocate for EVs for a long while, given the positive sustainability impact and many other benefits. In February of 2022 we put an order in for a Mustang Mach-e AWD with an understanding we qualify for a federal tax benefit of $7,500 and California of $2,000. However given supply chain constraints / delays, etc from Ford, we still have not received our vehicle (ETA 1/9/2023). Recently we have learned that our vehicle no longer qualifies for ANY tax benefits from Federal or State since it is considered a car with an MSRP cap of $55K. A couple of points:

- 3 of the 4 Mach-e models exceed the $55,000 maximum qualification limit. In reality probably equates to 80-90% of models ordered don't qualify.

https://www.ford.com/buy/mach-e/build-and-price.html#/model

- The Mustang Mach-e has been considered an SUV by Ford from the moment it was released in 2021:

"For the first time in 56 years, Ford is expanding the Mustang family, bringing the famous pony into the electric age with Mustang Mach-E, an all-new, all-electric SUV born of the same all-American ideals that inspired the best-selling sports coupe in the world."

https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/products/evs/mustang-mach-e/mustang-mach-e.html

At this point we are seriously considering moving back to a gas or gas / hybrid SUV to remain within our retirement budget.

Thank you for your consideration.
