For those waiting on orders, what does the Model Y price drop to $52,990 make you think?

I selected a Model Y last night and started the purchase before all of the $52,990 configurations in my area were purchased. In my circumstance, it would end up being about $3,000 more expensive. But the additional 100 miles of range, plus the small (but not unreasonable) fear that my January delivery window could slip into the abyss--who knows, even possibly after March--made it hard to justify not pulling the trigger. Good job, Ford.

Is there reason to believe that Ford and other EV manufacturers will now follow suit and drop prices, not by the same % but at least by some %? What happens to those who already placed orders and those who took delivery? Would this become a China Tesla kind of situation?

Unlike Tesla, if Ford decides to do something, they can do a manufacturer's rebate or cash back to the dealer since it's the dealership which purchased the car actually, not you/me and the dealer can pass on the savings.

I think this price cut just puts all other EV makers on notice. It boils down to how many is available in inventory. If there is little/none and sales are still happening, they won't do a thing. If cars start piling up, they will probably have to offer something. It's hard to predict at this moment.

All other EV makers have higher costs than Tesla so there might be limited things they can do as well, but the next few weeks/months will be interesting.

Just make sure you don't overpay if you don't need to (like ADM in this market, search/negotiate/be patient if you can).

although the EPA ratings "should" be representative of the car's true range, in the case of tesla i think they really are way over-optimistic on their GOM. my M3 never goes as many miles as they predict. it's clear based on energy consumption and actual distance traveled that they are goosing the range estimate.

i think a bigger thing is the availability and reliability of the supercharger network. seems like most of the DCFCs networks that the MME is compatible with are pretty flaky overall, based on reading reviews in FordPass and PlugShare.

Gee, now you have me second guessing my incoming Premium....

Hope Ford does not do a rebate or other cash back later if I take delivery this month...

BTW: Tesla's Model 3 RWD is super tempting (price wise).

If I were a Ford dealer, I'd be thinking about how to rebuild trust with my customer base after treating customers like crap over the last year. IMHO the tables are turning.

Only you can decide if the higher Mach E price is worth the premium cost vs. Tesla's new pricing. The market will show the answer for the greater consumer buyer community. We are already seeing '23 Mach Es priced above $55k MSRP sitting on dealer lots unsold, and used Mach E values continue to drop. The ball is in Ford's court to decide how to proceed.

Taking delivery of an MME Premium at MSRP now would seem like a huge risk. A Model Y LR AWR is $46.5K after the tax rebate, the M3 is even less. A similar spec MME is $63.5K, so depreciation of any MME at MSRP will be enormous once driven off the dealer lot.

Mission Ford saleman called 2 days ago telling me "only" $10k markup instead of $25k markup before. I was about to ask him to offer me lifetime oil changes.
Anyways, my wife likes the MY because it is Telsa. She prefers bands like Mercedes, Lexus, Porsche and no Toyota Ford KIA LOL. After price cuts, I'm tempting. I like the charge network and software that Ford lacks behind. Missing the driver screen and apple play is nay for me. I hate the most is Telsa colors, boring and feel like I can't recognize my car if I park in charge stations. But the Tesla price is so temptation and hard to resist.

For this price I am going to swing by Ford this afternoon to get a price on my Select, honestly if they offer more than $40k, its tempting to go get a Y long range. The extra 100 miles of range is the factor, in every other way I would choose the Mach-E, but that much range, wow.
please let us know how much they offer for your mach-e

Even though I already have a 2023 mme, I am definitely tempted to sell my ICE to pick up another model y. I wish they would drop the model x to 80-90k range. Will they drop prices further? I sure hope so.
If the X drops to $80k I’m in.

And panel gaps. Don’t forget the panel gaps.
The panel fitment is rather poor with the MME as well. I didn't notice this until I put the decals on the car. The front fender on the passenger side sticks out. I checked my Prius that was next to it just for comparison and the Prius panels were all laser straight. Maybe mine is an outlier but I am not sure on that one?
