The 'free' PACM method that is used by the powerboost F150 hybrid works on the MME. The forscan value change is from 4 to 0 (zero) (If you have auto 911 dial enabled, it may be a 7 value to 2 value change) - there's a YT vid on it "powerboost speaker silence". It's located in the rear back panel of the vehicle. For those who use their vehicle off road exclusively, you can remove / modify the dump truck beeping. The forscan value change tells the IPC that with a waive of the hand "there is no beeper"

Alternatively, this is also the spot to tap into the speaker if you want a volume knob instead of playing at the speaker itself.
For those of us not tuned into ODBC scanners and what/how they work would you please walk us through the process of getting this set up before going to the back of the MME to unplug the speaker? Thanks.

Backup beepers aren't mandated for passenger vehicles in the US, not sure about other countries. There's minimum sound levels that are quieter than a conversation -- as in really quiet. Instead of meeting those requirements, some manufacturers have gone crazy with what they're doing. SPL is a logarithmic scale. Going from 40 to 50db for instance isn't a 25% increase in sound, it's a 10 fold increase. To the human ear it sounds around twice as loud. Instead of meeting requirements, they're exceeding them by orders of magnitude. The beeping itself isn't a requirement at all however.
FYI.... NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) electric vehicle warning sounds to alert pedestrians in electric and hybrid vehicles manufactured after 2018, for both forward and reverse travel at low speeds.

Just because a uneducated government bureaucrat makes a regulation we all have to agree and follow along like little sheep? The fake noises do not make my car safer. Period. They make my car annoying. I don't want an annoying car.

It’s a STUPID regulation that should be revisited. ICE cars can also be silent when backing up….

Agree. My wife’s Audi is even worse. Sounds like a space ship and I can hear her coming from 1/4 mile away. I can’t even hear my neighbors V8 armada. Why did the government mandate that EVs be more annoying than other cars?
Idiocy is the only answer.

No, there's a 'silent' dtc that the PACM is missing. There are no other side effects. This has been long running in the powerboosts. By flipping the IPC bit, it ignores the PACM. The goal is to remove the beeping. Not the side effect of the noise as a whole, aka for car shows and other off-road uses. For those of us who move around late at night and have neighbors, some who sleep with windows open, having the BONG BONG BONG BONG not being the nuisance it is, is a must. Most vehicles today are quiet, the ICE has come a long way. It's counterproductive to have a quiet vehicle with an artificial noisemaker making a vehicle louder than any comparable ICE. And yes, initial phrasing is important, as is the use case.

Without the IPC change, the MIL will be on.
100% right on, man!!!!

I've got no lack of of I. There is no beeping requirement. Not sure why this is hard to understand. Read the laws, read the SPL info. Beeping is nowhere. It's an average SPL.

The funnier portions I believe are for the higher speed where wind and tire noise become dominant. I get to see all manner of vehicles come by around 30 MPH and it doesn't matter if it's a tesla or an ICE vehicle, the road noise is all that's heard. Sans the occasional ricer and older diesels, if a vehicle isn't accelerating, the ICE isn't audible.

I love the law in question. Read it. It's a prime example of govt nonsense. "drive in 100' circles" ---LMAO

This is 100% correct.

Today we were out walking the dogs and didn't notice an old Tundra pickup truck coming up behind us. We didn't hear anything. In fact, when he pulled into his driveway next to us, we barely heard his engine. The tire noise was the most obvious.

So why do the government bureaucrats think BEVs need fake noise? Because they are a bunch of idiots.

As I said in another post about modifications to safety equipment. If you bypass factory installed safety equipment, god help you if something happens and you are held liable.

PACM does not show up in configuration and programming, it shows up in vehicle tests, the vehicle configuration, says it found it when connected. is it buried under another module or something?
