So, I got an email this past week that my complimentary BlueCruise subscription is about to expire, and it got me thinking…

While I've been aware for a long time (though not until after I bought my GT in March last year) that BC is subscription-based, I cannot find it stated anywhere. It's not on the window sticker, it wasn't in the online info when I bought the car. I've RTFM'd and there is no mention of BC being a subscription there either. (Lots of mentions about SiriusXM being subscription-based however.) I only know about it because of this forum. So while I don't doubt that it is in fact subscription-based, I'm wondering if I (and others) have a case that in fact we should be able to have continued use of BC for free?

No flames please - just an honest question.
look in "connected services" in Ford Pass...

Although I wouldn't be surprised if Ford backs away from some subscriptions at some point, no, I don't think there is a case for free BC.

I do use it almost daily for about 1/3 of my daily commute. I would like to keep using it. I will not pay for partial support.
We have no BlueCruise roads here and never will, so I was trying to see your thoughts on the product as it currently is. I take it you believe that BlueCruise 1.0 is an incomplete product in that form. That's understandable. My guess is that it reverts to hands-on BlueCruise only once the subscription expires, aka adaptive cruise control. I'll personally find out in April.

EDIT: It has been pointed out to me that the Ford BlueCruise website makes specific mention of BC being tied to Connected Services, for which there is a 3-year subscription. So I withdraw my complaint.

Right, I know it's there. But you don't have FP setup until after you buy the car. So the point I'm making is that perhaps a bait and switch argument could be made here......?

I did the quick math on my usage. Basically I have a hard time after realizing I'd pay roughly $3 to $7 EACH time I use it. (That is even counting the 1 minute of random use that day) Thats pretty expensive for what it's providing, which is really lane keeping assist and radar cruise with a "just doesn't work at all randomly".

If I road tripped? Yes sign me up. Give me a weekly sub on the fly and I'd be a happy camper.
I refuse to pay for anything on a monthly basis. Nav sucks anyway and Google maps is fine.

My understanding of why it's subscription based is that part of the dataset is mapping of the approved roads to use BC on. To which I can honestly understand charging for that upkeep.

That said, as someone who uses BC when making road trips once a quarter, I don't find the value of the $636/3yr subscription if my Job 1 car doesn't get BC 1.2 features. Paying full price and not getting feature upgrades doesn't bode confidence in me. If there's some hardware differences on Job 1 cars that prevent new features, then at least charge a reduced price. But in the full mix of it, I simply don't find the value matching the service.

Right now my BC is set to expire on April 8th. I'll wait till then to make a decision, but it's not looking good at this moment.

So while I don't doubt that it is in fact subscription-based, I'm wondering if I (and others) have a case that in fact we should be able to have continued use of BC for free?
For Job 1 cars, the communication was around future enabling of BC and that we would get a "free" period of service with BC. I even got money off the car at purchase as an apology for the feature not being ready and signing a document acknowledging that.

But that's Job 1 and not your experience at all (seeing you have a 2022). It doesn't surprise me if subscription based features weren't communicated properly. Ford's trying to do these subscription services to have ongoing revenue, but not understanding the lack of value proposition as currently offered and priced.

Hell yeah you have a case. BC was a $1900 priced option, and nowhere did it say that a separate subscription was required. Now, for continuous updates to BC...probably no reasonable expectation of that. But if you pay $1900 for a feature, and there's no heads up that the feature will have limited (zero? near-zero? some but not all? most but not all?) functionality, then you bought a substandard and very overpriced paperweight. Now, having a case and that case are very different things, but it's not a crazy claim (if it's true that the BC subscription model wasn't known/advertised).

Your correct! Most states and the US government requires everything stated on the window sticker and it’s not. To come out later and state something otherwise is definitely breaking the law. If manufacturers want to post that on the unsold ones and prior to being ordered that’s fine. The state’s attorney needs to enforce false advertising across the entire auto industry.

Well I'd LOVE to have my $1900 option NOT cost me another $200+ a year to use. Moreso after it JUST started actually working 1/2 way through last year?
Feel free for someone to try to get the ball rolling on that. For me for some reason I can't pull my window sticker from Ford.

But in the Connected Services section in our Ford account, Navigation and BlueCruise are two different things. So that wording isn't sufficient to assume it includes BC IMO.

That being said....I did sign a document at vehicle purchase that said I realize and understand that I paid for the BC hardware but he software was subscription based and additional cost. (In my case.....software to be available at a later time). So. If the OP signed a similar agreement then it would answer the question most definitively.

To renew the subscription is 3 years for $600 + tax. I plan on renewing when mine is up in April.

Example from someone else.

Ford's gotta fund that battery development somehow ?
