So, I got an email this past week that my complimentary BlueCruise subscription is about to expire, and it got me thinking…

I will not be subscribing until Ford updates all Job 1 cars like mine to 1.2. None of this “it’s coming”, no “second quarter”, I’m not paying until I have all the features available

I’m presuming that you don’t use the current iteration of BC because of the lack of a lane change feature and other refinements found in 1.2? Or just don’t feel BC is worth the subscription?

What are the terms of the subscription? Is it monthly, annual, or a 3-yr price?

Since mine has never worked (always tells me to put my hands on the wheel) and runs out in October this year I will need to think if I want to pay monthly for something that has never worked?

I do use it almost daily for about 1/3 of my daily commute. I would like to keep using it. I will not pay for partial support.

What options did it give you to subscribe?

I did the quick math on my usage. Basically I have a hard time after realizing I'd pay roughly $3 to $7 EACH time I use it. (That is even counting the 1 minute of random use that day) Thats pretty expensive for what it's providing, which is really lane keeping assist and radar cruise with a "just doesn't work at all randomly".

If I road tripped? Yes sign me up. Give me a weekly sub on the fly and I'd be a happy camper.

I don't have to renew for a while, but I agree with the OP and I probably wouldn't renew without 1.2. I don't need lane change, but I do need better lane centering which I believe is part of 1.2. I also need a manufacturer committed to delivering software improvements to keep a car feeling fresh.

To renew the subscription is 3 years for $600 + tax. I plan on renewing when mine is up in April.

Example from someone else.

Mine is up in June 2023 - I don't know what it'll cost me - 2023 Select, BC 1.2. Works great, but I just don't use it a lot.

I've got to say that this is a pretty silly view IMO. Why? You want ALL the features? Do you know what ALL is? You do know that features tend to EVOLVE, right? Therefore, 1.2 is not necessarily the end of the line for BlueCruise updates. To hold out for lane change and a tweak to lane centering, in my opinion, is crazy.

With the feature fragmenting they're doing on newer models with BC 1.2, it's frustrating more so than anything for older models. I also don't get why it's a subscription in the first place. When it's active, is it actually doing anything that needs a connection? I'd assume it downloads a map where it says it can do things, and if not on that road to not activate. Seems like I can just download a map once and have the onboard cameras and software manage everything and not need a subscription. There's also tons of spots on I-10 and I-75 in FL that randomly stop working for like 5-10 seconds and then resume. Pretty annoying.

I do expect older models to get 1.2 eventually, but as others have stated before, it's silly to pay for a subscription when you don't even know the timeline of things. Why should someone spend $200/year to have BC work and not work in the same areas they drive on a daily/usual basis AND not get new features? Sounds like something that should be more of a flat fee since it all exists on the car already.

If Ford showed some consistency/parity in their releases, I'd be more up for it. But seems like back in the day with Sync 3, where they bragged it can do updates and somehow in a handful of years they release like 1 map update that's already outdated. I'm gonna need more reassurance from Ford that spending that kind of money on a subscription (or multiple subscriptions) will actually give me new and up-to-date services.

EDIT: It has been pointed out to me that the Ford BlueCruise website makes specific mention of BC being tied to Connected Services, for which there is a 3-year subscription. So I withdraw my complaint.

While I've been aware for a long time (though not until after I bought my GT in March last year) that BC is subscription-based, I cannot find it stated anywhere. It's not on the window sticker, it wasn't in the online info when I bought the car. I've RTFM'd and there is no mention of BC being a subscription there either. (Lots of mentions about SiriusXM being subscription-based however.) I only know about it because of this forum. So while I don't doubt that it is in fact subscription-based, I'm wondering if I (and others) have a case that in fact we should be able to have continued use of BC for free?

No flames please - just an honest question.
