So, I got an email this past week that my complimentary BlueCruise subscription is about to expire, and it got me thinking…

Rick, how is BC not a $1900 option when it is stated as exactly that on my window sticker?

As for it not being "bait and switch", perhaps that's not the correct term. But Ford specifically states that Nav is subscription-based on the sticker but doesn't state that BC is. It isn't stated anywhere (that I can find).

If someone can point me to where it is stated, then great, I'll stand down. Otherwise I might ultimately take Ford to small claims court. (Something I've never done before in my life, to be clear.)
You paid $1,900 for Ford Co-Pilot 360 Active 2.0, which includes multiple features including BlueCruise, Active Park Assist 2.0, and 360 degree camera. Nobody is taking away any of those features. Why? Because BlueCruise INCLUDES HANDS ON DRIVING. That isn't a subscription. The only thing that is a subscription is the HANDS-FREE component. Where does it say anything about you paying any money for the hands-free component?

Even if BC worked, I probably would not shell out the cash for it.
I enjoy driving.
I purchased the MME in order to have fun driving it.
I am not so old that I must have a robot do the driving.
I know, I am not cool. Never was. Will not be.

(I do use adaptive cruise control to keep me at the speed limit, most of the time. The fun to drive MME can trick you into accelerating beyond the speed limit unknowingly.)

Have fun driving your MME

ok now I'm in. BC includes me driving with my hand on the wheel and the part I pay for is the random time I might be able to take my hand off the wheel for a minute or two. What other magic is hands on BC? Also known as cruise. That every other car has. Radar? Isn't part of the normal cruise? It is on every other car for nearly a decade. As I understood BC was the maps. Those subscription maps that tell the car if it can go HF. It just uses lane keeping. It's not like 111ty billion data points for each lane exist and is in some database somewhere called BC. This feature gets dumber the more it's explained.

I think that's the problem here, Ford's confusing (deceptive?) terminology/marketing. Most of their marketing makes it sound like BlueCruise is hands-free driving. Even their main webpage on it starts off with...

EDIT: It has been pointed out to me that the Ford BlueCruise website makes specific mention of BC being tied to Connected Services, for which there is a 3-year subscription. So I withdraw my complaint.

Rick, where does it say on the sticker (or anywhere else for my 2022 GT before I purchased the car) that BCHF is subscription-based? You’re big on the RTFM front, but I did RTFM/contract/etc. and I can’t find it anywhere.

And here I thought I was the only lucky one. In the same boat.
I enjoy driving so it is not like I require it. I have only been notified twice I was on a BC highway but both times after multiple attempts it did not engage ?‍♂ . For me it would not be worth paying annually for Ford software and the privilege of dealing with it. Trying now to keep it simple with Ford tech. If I get real desperate there is BC hands on (that came with the car) and an ankle weight for $900 CAN less annually. ;)

The BCHO was called something different but they renamed it after we bought and confused many.

Provided the new coax cable for the camera fixes the issue that is causing the Front Camera faults, then I will consider paying the $600 plus tax for Blue Cruise Hands Free subscription.

The younger members of my family (my kids, nephew an nieces) love that feature when they drive my car. So much so that my nephew is actively hunting for a new car and if it doesn't have some sort of hands free driving like Blue Cruise or Super Cruise etc......then he isn't interested.

When I told him it is going to cost me about $200 per year for the subscription then he responded that $17 per month is a bargain and he would gladly pay for it. In my case....I drive about 32k miles per year so the cost per mile (since almost all my miles are on BC routes) is practically zero.

Anyone know what Super Cruise costs? Does GM sell that as a subscription like Ford is planning on doing for BC?

I thought bait-and-switch originated when referring to car dealerships. Car salesmen have always been the best example of dishonesty. I think they are more dishonest by using other terms, eg. ADM.

I don't see anywhere the words handsfree. You didn't buy handsfree, nor pay for it. You got a 3 yr trial for free. You accepted it when you logged into you Ford.com account and activated it.

Includes a three-year Connected Service plan with regular map updates after which purchase is required.

And this is why they think they (Ford) have a cash cow.

That I understood to be navigation and BC hands free. Not the hands on that was not even call Blue cruise to begin with. Would it be correct that the rebranded BCHO is not part of the subscription or was there a change made after we bought?

BlueCruise hands on is not a subscription. Handsfree is, as is connected navigation. Hands on is really just Adaptive Cruise with Lane Centering and Lane Keeping.

I will not be subscribing until Ford updates all Job 1 cars like mine to 1.2. None of this “it’s coming”, no “second quarter”, I’m not paying until I have all the features available
I'm joining your boycott, and I hope others do, too. Even if you think BC1.0 is worth the $600, we need to put some pressure on Ford. #WaitingForOnePointTwo. Until Ford does right by early adopters, Just Say No. It isn't that hard at all to use a three-dollar ankle weight.
