I'm in the metropolitan Portland OR area as well. I found it necessary to disable 1PD to have better control over the vehicle as I was decelerating on the slippery spots.

Question for the group: Under the new UI, the 1PD selector seems to do a global change across all of the drive modes. Was this the behavior in the past? (I don't remember it that way. . .)

I know previously (3.5 something) the 1pd was stuck to each drive mode. I know this because out of the blue whilst driving mine decided to Guest mode me and stuck me over to Engage, without 1pd. I caught it fast enough to not run out into traffic. That was NOT fun. Now in 4.1.2+ It appears it's global though all the modes.

and the 2021/2022 Ford manual for the Mach E says:

USING SUMMER TIRES

Summer tires provide superior performance on wet and dry roads. Summer tires do not have the Mud and Snow (M+S or M/S) tire traction rating on the tire side wall. Since summer tires do not have the same traction performance as All-season or Snow tires, we do not recommend using summer tires when temperatures drop to about 45°F (7°C) or below, depending on tire wear and environmental conditions, or in snow and ice conditions. Like any tire, summer tire performance is affected by tire wear and environmental conditions. If you must drive in those conditions, we recommend using Mud and Snow (M+S, M/S), All-season or Snow tires.

Always store your summer tires indoors at temperatures above 19°F (-7°C). The rubber compounds used in these tires lose flexibility and may develop surface cracks in the tread area at temperatures below 19°F (-7°C). If the tires have been subjected to 19°F (-7°C) or less, warm them in a heated space to at least 41°F (5°C) for at least 24 hours before installing them on a vehicle, or moving the vehicle with the tires installed, or checking tire inflation. Always inspect the tires after storage periods and before use.

I didn't drive the Mustang today, but I did yesterday.
Here's today's accumulation.
We're up to around 12 feet of total snow since November.

I also turn off 1pd - was wondering how many others do the same. I had exactly 1 experience with 1pd on ice before deciding not to try that again.

Snowbowl is on a 322 inch base and it's still falling. At least we'll have water, this year.

well that needs a lot of work to take it off
An interesting impact of an EV is that the snow on the hood doesn't melt while the vehicle is "warming up," so it needs to be removed, which means higher likelihood of scratching a visible part of the car.

I really wonder how the stock GTPEs Pirellis will perform in the cold.
Use of summer-only tires in cold temps (even on flat dry pavement) is highly discouraged.

The rubber is formulated to be grippy in warm weather ... but is stiff and _not_ grippy in cold weather.

I hope so. If it doesn't melt too quickly (on the mountains), it'll be great. If it melts too quickly, it could lead to much more dangerous fire season because all the underbrush growth drying out and becoming tinder.

Same thing here. We get very heavy snowfall and I never use 1pd drive in the winter. Too unpredictable when slowing down on slippery surfaces.

Something else I noticed - although this may be particular to heavy wet New England snows - is that the front sensors get snowed over and crash detection is disabled. Which also means no bluecruise although you'd have to be crazy to use BC in inclement weather.

We get that here too. It doesn't bother me because I agree: it's foolish to try to use cruise control of any kind in inclement weather. I am not a carwash kind of person, but with newer vehicles we kind of don't have a choice what with all the sensors on the vehicle. I'm not complaining, but it's certainly something different.
