Yep, traction control uses the ABS breaks to stop the wheels from spinning in low traction conditions
so it’s not an issue for the car and it’s normal to be doing it correct?

Yes if it's being driven in low traction conditions you can hear abs kick in to slow the car and then as traction control to stop the wheels from spinning.

I would say if the car makes that sound during normal driving conditions then have it checked out. You could also search YouTube for videos for Ford ABS and Traction control sounds and compare what you heard.

Good to know. Because I was like what in the world is that. Sounded like it was coming from the battery.
That sound is from your relays firing.

Just looked that up on YouTube and that’s exactly the sound.

I really wonder how the stock GTPEs Pirellis will perform in the cold.

I assume you have read about these tires not to be used under 45 degrees or they crack up and wear out faster than drag slicks (17k in my case). They make good skis in snow.

My California Route 1 was all over the place in Portland. I'm guessing the smaller tires and rear wheel drive only. Did not feel comfortable driving it here (just moved to OR). I will most likely trade it in for something AWD.

It's the RWD, I usually run the CR1 wheels on my premium.

As someone who has owned a bunch of mustangs RWD does not get around well in the snow. You could try winter or all weather tires and they would help but not as much as AWD

The stock tires on my CA Rt. 1 aren't the best I've ever driven on in snow/ice, but the AWD and traction control helps a lot more than I had expected. I haven't even bothered to put it in Whisper mode rather than Engage as recommended by Ford.

You know, I WOULD get dedicated winter tires, but I literally have no place to store them (I’m NOT hauling tires to and from the basement!)
If Ford wanted to make money off me, they’d offer a “tire valet service” as a subscription. They’d store the tires I’m not using and swap the tires as requested. They wouldn’t even have to store them on-site since I’d obviously make an appointment for tire swapping. Easiest money the dealer could hope for!
My dealer offers exactly this (as do any number of tire shops around here). I assumed it was normal. I guess not.

They do ok in cold for me. Even with patches of ice not too bad. No problem in the rain. Nearly helpless in snow.
