IRR windshield- blocks UV?

This might be a dumb question... but does the IRR windshield in the MME also blocks UV light or should I get the windshield tinted to prevent UV?

It does.

But it’s also illegal to tint the windshield in most places.

What is your goal in blocking UV?

When I was younger, and not as experienced driving, I had my windshield tinted with a light tint. Bad move--even though the tint was not very strong--night driving was horrible. I absolutely would not suggest tinting the windshield. Additionally, should you have an accident, and God forbid you kill someone, the subsequent investigation will show the illegal tint. This may lead to some serious legal ramifications. Just a thought....

Every car windshield blocks UVA and UVB. Has been this way for decades. It is why most photochromic tinted eye glasses don’t get dark in the car.

I tinted my rear windshield and agree about night driving. I wouldn’t be able to tell if I was being high beamed-as everything is dark

If you have the IRR (infrared rejection) windshield then, yes. Even with direct sunlight the dashboard does not get hot. It is similar to the ecoating on the sunroof.

Back when I had my Fusion Energi, I got the front side windows "clear" tinted with a UV film. My tint guy said that it'd be a huge waste of money to do the windscreen since it's already got UV-blocking in the matrix between layers. My MME has IR and UV rejection in the matrix. ??

Only early morning or sunset….. and you don’t need skin protection then.

But yeah, it blocks UV.

Over the weekend it got in the low 80s here in Dallas for the first time since I bought my mach-e (winter purchase). I ceramic tinted my panoramic roof along with the rest of the passenger/rears and I have to say that I was surprised how warm the car got after being parked outside for a few hours. I made a mental note to use the front windshield cover which I have from prior cars. Clearly people have different tolerances for heat.

FWIW, some people are prone to/have skin cancer and are more concerned about UV than others.
