I got mine by calling the FORD number 1-800-334-4375, have your info ready....they have always been helpful and polite......oh, wait for the mach e prompt.....I got my VIN from them, called dealer for build date....good luck

I have had my build week (1/4/21) for more than two weeks now. Called the dealer yesterday for a vin. They looked and said it wasn't available and wouldn't be until the car was actually being built.

I explained the experience of all of those on this site and the dealer didn't really have a response. He just said it wasn't available now and he didn't expect it until early in January. Oh, well. Maybe I will try the Ford helpline.

I don't understand why this needs to be so secretive. Ford, just issue the darn numbers and be helpful to your customers! I've really come to hate this process.

What is so important about the VIN number? Does Ford normally issue VIN numbers this far in advance. I have ordered a few BMWs and the VIN is always issued somewhere around 14 days before the production day.

You’re not missing anything. There really isn’t anything you can do in the app before the car gets built.

I am sure it is the former. He took the time to "check again" and told me what he was seeing. Unless he was straight lying, I think he just wasn't sure where to look.

I agree that a vin isn't a that important at this point, so not really an issue for me. Never got one in advance in the past and made out just fine!

When we went to see the Mach E at the dealership, the dealer couldn't have been nicer when I asked for my VIN. I have a production date of 12/21/20. Using the "how to read a VIN" paperwork, I saw that my car will be as ordered.

VIN numbers are useful if you neec to apply for a rebate. Example would be an evse charger. Here in California they want that on the rebe application

My dealer rep has been selling cars and trucks for Ford since the 90s. He said that when an order is put into the production process, a VIN is created, he has never seen that not be the case. The day that my Mach Drop order appeared on WBDO there was a VIN. He was surprised when I told him that people were told their car was in production but with no VIN yet.

Because there are no vehicles in production without a VIN. That is separate from a dealer not providing a VIN.
