I know with certainty that data from my security cameras are absolutely being uploaded to a server in China...or they would be if I didn't disable that part of their internet service, which produces an "inconvenience" of not being able to access the data while away from home.

You can always setup a VPN. I have a QNAP NAS and I run a VPN server on that and run the OpenVPN app on my phone to get to the cameras.

I had my QNAP NAS running in exactly that configuration for a while, but I needed to take the QNAP offline for a reason and haven't had time to put it back online. So my cameras store to a local drive and I never look at them, even though they have some fantastic wildlife captures in there somewhere....which is really the reason I have the cameras in the first place.

This is one area I can commend Ford, they take user data privacy much more seriously than Tesla. Some of us have signed up for advanced monitoring, but Ford has strict rules on how that data is used and by whom, and camera footage is not remotely collected to my knowledge.

First, rules are only as good as the people who are supposed to follow them. Rules are often broken internally - sometimes that is exposed and sometimes not. Let’s not pretend Ford is clean as the driven snow just because a similar report has not surfaced. Do you honestly believe if Reuters “contacted 300 former [Ford] software engineers who had worked at the company the past nine years, and 12 agreed to talk on condition of anonymity,” something embarrassing wouldn’t emerge?

Second, the MME’s video capabilities in general are far more limited than Teslas. No interior cam, fewer exterior cams, and they only operate when the vehicle is in motion. And yes, that’s good from a privacy standpoint but less good from a standpoint of all those people on this board who have clamored for SentryMode.

The Elon / Tesla contempt on here continues to amaze. I’m not making excuses for Tesla - I’m just rolling my eyes at pretending that we know Ford is somehow better.

And I think I might trade this sort of behavior for a team of engineers that can actually fix software bugs after two years. I’d just tape over the interior camera and not store a bunch of classified documents in my garage.

I tend to believe because of how conservative we’ve seen ford be (I.e.; how restrictive BC has been during rollout…. very slow roll on OTAs…) that ford legal has a pretty strong presence in ability for things like this to ever happen with a mach e.

It's entirely possible that different people take the phrase "Sentry Mode" to mean different levels of functionality and control than maybe what Tesla claims to offer.

Unless proven otherwise, you can assume that IT and support type roles have unprecedented access to your data. As an 18 year old I had direct, unaudited access to the local hospital's staff records: SSNs, salaries, etc... Just because I was part of a small team building out some HR software. We were responsible, and it wasn't nefarious... It was out of convenience. But it didn't have to be that way.

Industry standard security has improved a lot since then, but there's still almost always some group with unfettered access that is only artificially restricted by policy.

So if Tesla internally has the same culture that Musk exhibits on Twitter, then I don't doubt this type of behavior exists at Tesla. It also doesn't mean the same thing happens elsewhere, even if technically speaking it could. Plenty of companies have internal data privacy policies that are actually respected and enforced.

Just like in the Tesla video discussion on this thread, when the "product" we consume appears free to the user and simultaneously seems to somehow naturally attract us, then we are the product and the "product" is the bait.

I disabled the internet access on all my cameras (except the doorbell camera) and have them feeding to Blue Iris. I can connect to Blue Irus through the internet and view all my cameras.

I have no doubt the CCP is capturing everything they can to try to use it against us.

No, it’s advanced analytics and those involved signed a legal waiver before entry. Mach-E can’t do sentry mode, it’s nothing to do with that.
