You can always setup a VPN. I have a QNAP NAS and I run a VPN server on that and run the OpenVPN app on my phone to get to the cameras.And open circuit (i.e., webcams and security) cams with servers in China. I know with certainty that data from my security cameras are absolutely being uploaded to a server in China...or they would be if I didn't disable that part of their internet service, which produces an "inconvenience" of not being able to access the data while away from home.
