I have my charge settings set so my car will start charging at 9 p.m. A few weeks ago I was out and got home about 11:00. I plugged in my MME and went to bed. The next day I went out for lunch. I back out of my driveway and started to drive off when I heard a ding from the dash. I looked down and see a Service Vehicle Soon message. I cleared the message and the wrench icon lit up. I noticed at this point the car didn't charge. Since I was already on my way and the car seemed to be driving normally, I continued to restaurant to pick up my lunch. When I came out from the restaurant and started the car, I noticed the wrench icon was no longer lit.

I got home and checked the Ford Pass app and there were two messages: one for charge fault and one for Powertrain Malfunction. I called my dealer but they weren't able to get it in for a couple weeks, which was last week. In the meantime, I kept driving it, and everything worked fine. After they had it a couple days, I got a call from the dealer that they had to order a battery charging unit, P/N LJ9Z-10B689-E. Unfortunately, the part is on back order. I took the car back and it's been driving fine until last night. I got back home about 9:30. I plugged the car in and it started charging. About 10-15 minutes later I get a charge fault message in the app. I went out to see the red ring on the charge port. I unplugged the car, let it sit for about 45 minutes, and plugged it back in. It charged fine.

As I thought about it, I realized between the two fault events, every time I drove the car, it had a chance to sit for a while before charging initiated. My theory, based on a sample size of two, is that when I try charging immediately after driving, everything is "hot" and the charging is heating it up further and tripping a sensor.

Very interesting - thanks for this post. I had the EXACT same behavior happen to me today, though I have not yet been to the dealer (because well it just happened today). Same error messages, same situation, same "let it sit and it seems to get better" behavior.

If the behavior happens again I will test to see if I can replicate what you are seeing as well.
I've also begun getting the "Drive Mode not available" message as well. Wondering if there is any relationship between the two.

Just got a 'Service Vehicle Soon' message on my dash when I went to drive to work today. Usually I have my car scheduled to warm up for departure, but nothing was happening, and saw in Ford Pass that I had a Charge Fault about 30 minutes prior. Then, when I got to work, Ford Pass said I had a Powertrain Malfunction and I thought "Oh boy, here we go!". Called my local dealer about it, and they can get me in on Friday (3 days from now).

I'm supposed to go to a workshop about 90 minutes away tomorrow after work, and was going to charge there (Level 2) while at the meeting. I'm going to see if/how it charges tonight when I get home and take it off schedule. Crossing fingers it's nothing severe, but I was always dreading this day.....

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I only saw this one time (about a week ago now) and it has not resurfaced. Error cleared, charged is working as expected. Not sure what to attribute that to, but I will knock some wood for both of us.

Yeah, I've since noticed several threads with a similar note of either a charging fault or a service vehicle soon beginning in late February. I also noted a 'service vehicle' notification in Ford Pass the last week of Feb when I checked it this morning.

Very much wonder if there is some soft of software bug/glitch that was activated.

Hi there! Would you send us a private message with your VIN and dealership name and location? I’d like to look into this concern on my end.

Very interesting. Got the same message today. Anyone has any updates from Ford on it?

I also got a charge fault today only a few minutes after plugging in and a Service Vehicle Soon message when I started the car. This is a 22 GT with 12,500 miles I purchased new in 5/22. The car has been trouble free so far.

I drove the car in and out of my garage and got a "Powertrain Malfunction / Reduced Power" message. I then called my local dealer and the soonest they could get me in for "diagnostics" is 2 weeks from tomorrow. They said this message is the Mach-E's check engine light. I'm not sure I believe them.

Something is definitely out of the ordinary with this. I also got my car in 5/22 and it's be rolling fine since then until this morning.

Went out at lunch today and wrench icon was gone. Going to see if it charges today at home.

Sorry to bring up a "kind of" old thread but my Mach E has done exactly the same for the two past charging events with my home Level II charger. I have had it since December 22 trouble free (minus BlueCruise not working until an update) but last Friday after getting home from work I tried to charge it fully to 100% in prep for a long weekend journey and if quickly cut off and got the charge fault error. This was right when I got home and the car was hot. I immediately tried re-plugging back in and my 12 year old Level II Siemens charger's info screen was showing waiting to communicate with the car and would not charge. Thus it seemed the error was with the Mach E and not the charger. Anyway, I then brought it into my cooler garage after a short drive and it charged to 100% with no issue. So I too thought maybe it was too hot to charge....

Over the weekend, we drove it roughly 240 miles and upon getting home we tried to charge to our normal 90% with Level II and it got a fault error after putting about 30 miles of range on, although we didn't know that until this morning. Wife drove it to work and it's showing the Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced Power note in Ford App, although she said it drove fine. I was going to check it again tonight using our Level II Charger and maybe the Level I that came with it. Tomorrow I will drive it to work which has a Level II Charger and try that as well (if we still have enough range that is).

So was there any rectification to this? Is Ford still reaching out to you all directly thru messaging, etc. I want to avoid taking it to the dealer. When we had that BlueCruise software update issue they were very back logged.... Maybe that has improved now.

The same thing is happening to me with my 2021 Premium AWD Mach E. It is nerve-wracking and I am getting tired of having to keep going out to restart the charge. I have tried to remove my house as a charging location and start from scratch to no avail.

My dealer received the battery charger unit at the end of March. They had my car a few days installing the unit and everything has worked fine since then.
