SSM 51647 2021-2022 Mustang Mach-E - Headlamps Turn On By Themselves When Vehicle Is Off - DTC B1533

Some 2021-2022 Mustang Mach-E vehicles may exhibit a condition of intermittent headlamp operation while the vehicle is OFF and have diagnostic trouble code (DTC) B1533 stored in the body control module (BCM). This may be due to the internal logic within the headlamp switch. Switch and/or module replacement will not resolve this condition. Headlamp operation is not affected while the vehicle is ON. A new headlamp switch is currently under development to correct this condition. This condition does not affect vehicle durability and no additional diagnosis or service is required for this condition at this time. Inform customers that they can continue to drive the vehicle and schedule a follow-up appointment in July 2023, when parts are expected to become available. Follow up with the customer to confirm the appointment once OASIS is updated with the repair information.

----End SSM----

An update from the previous SSM, replacement headlight switches now expected in July to fix the headlight bug.

I’ve had this issue at least monthly since “birth.” It first showed up the first day I had the car.

Not sure it’s worth a trip to the dealer though. I would probably have them fix it if there’s other issues at the same time.

Turning a knob once a month isn’t that bad.

Ford could earn huge brownie points if they could roll a truck to my house and replace this headlight switch in my driveway! C'mon @Ford Motor Company - make me happy.

OK, so last year Ford said the replacement module would be ready in Nov 22, and now, fully six months after their originally stated timeframe they postpone the replacement for another couple months. Anyone wanna place odds on them meeting it this time around?

The funny part about it is that this only applies to MY21-22 so they must have changed it for 2023. One would think that if it was revised for MY23 that it would be available for MY21-22, or maybe it is??

I don't even know why for some people it happens more often and for others like myself it's only happened once or twice in 2 years. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that maybe it was a pain in the ass to figure out what was wrong?

To be fair, Ford realized ahead of time that the original deadline was going to slip so they prepared the updated SSM fully 7 months ago. They prudently sat on the updated memo for 7 months to give ample time for internal peer review, international translation, and legal review. Thus this new announcement is perfect (to within 5 nines of reliability) and you have no reason to worry about the next deadline being missed.

Mine started off only once every few months, but now it's more like once a week. I have gotten into the habit of turning off the headlight switch as I am exiting the car each time.

Mine does it too. It's been happening more recently. I'll get a notification of motion in the garage on my phone. When I check, it shows the lights on, and they'll shut off soon after.

Strangest thing.

There was a discussion about this on the Lightning forum and the conclusion was that the new switch design did, indeed hit in November, but all initial quantities went to new production. It kind of makes sense to stop putting out new vehicles that they will have to pay to fix.
