Mandy Patinkin (The Princess Bride, Homeland, Criminal Minds) just posted a TikTok showing his departure for a long road trip with his dog in his Mach-E. Hopefully, he’ll share his experiences with us along the way.

I suspect this is not going to end well. First segment is drive over four hours, arrive at station that Fordpass recommended with (allegedly) 13% charge. Yikes!

Yes, that was a bit of a concern to me too. I wanted to reach through the screen and tell him to charge up long before he gets that low (because you can’t depend on what the car is estimating for range) and to look for opportunities to charge whenever he makes a pit stop.

The dog is not restrained. I certainly hope there’s not an accident.

I expect that Gideon has made sure that Mandy is fully aware of what he needs to do to have a successful trip.

I know, that poor dog. We always used a dog bed on our back seat. When I had a wrangler I would use a harness, couldnt have him jumping out at a stop sign.

This trip will either be awesome for the MME or the worst press ever if he has a complete failure.

I am always uncomfortable discussing in-car pet restraints because I don’t have pets and I know that pet lovers feel very strongly about their pets (more so than their kids in many cases ?). That said, whenever I see unrestrained pets, such as dogs hanging their heads out the window, or people driving with their little dog in their lap, in front of the steering wheel, I feel sorry for the pet.

Our little guy was car nervous, so he just laid in his bed and didnt move. Most people use the harness to keep the dog from coming up front. But we never did the head out the window, or front seat. Its enough of a struggle getting kids securely strapped in, we just let the dog be comfy.

One of the concerns is that, in the event of a violent accident, the pet can become an uncontrolled missile bouncing around the cabin.

Not a pet owner, grew up with two huge golden retrievers. Never understood the people that take pets everywhere, or the woman in our neighborhood that takes her dog out in his pet stroller.... But, that's their business.

As for restraint, agree with Jimrpa. Many of the pet restraints would never hold up in a bad accident, they simply keep the pet out of the driver's area.

12 posts in and only one Inigo Montoya reference and one Jason Gideon post and not a single meme? The forum is slipping. ;)

My doggos are both hooked in and able to stick their noses out the window. :)

I have a cat. Being a calico cat, if you don’t keep her in her very own comfortable luxury level carrier, she’ll start the car and drive off without you. Cause she’s a cat.
