I need to mount a charger on a post by the driveway. It won't be covered or protected from the elements. I would rather have a metal post to hang the charger on. The only brand I see that sells a reasonably-priced post is Tesla. Does anyone have any suggestions? Your thoughts on the post or the best charger for an outdoors application would be welcome.
Thanks,
RLW

Your thoughts on ... the best charger for an outdoors application would be welcome.
Thanks,

They are all weatherproof. You may want to pay attention to how cold weather impacts the cord flexibility but in GA that won't be a huge issue.

We recently had one installed outside and wired straight to the panel. We opted to mount to a pressure treated 4x4. Electrician said it’s totally fine and sealed. Honestly as long as it’s a pressure treated post, you’ll be good. We put a copper post topper on it to make it look a little nicer.

Ours is slightly under the roof line but certainly exposed and has been POURING here for a month without issue. Happy to share pics of the install.

I am planning on doing a similar project. I was looking for a metal post/pedestal like you originally said. However, I have pivoted and just planning to mount the EVSE to a 4x4.

If you don’t like the look of a 4x4, get a vinyl post sleeve and topper to go over it.
Or, there's the old "putty, sand, and paint" method! ??

I purchased the Lectron charger displayed in the photos mounted on the outside of my house in October. The device, like all chargers are weatherproof; I have had no problem with charging during any of the seasons so far. (I live in N.Y.) My brother purchased one, as well as a Tesla to J1722 adaptor for his Tesla, so I and other EV owners can charge when I visiting. Another factor was the charger is cheaper than any of the others, yet still works just as well as his friend's Tesla charger.)

They are the most reasonably priced company and offer discounts, leave the item in your account for a day or 2 and they will send a promo code or a first time discount code. They sell all sorts of adaptors and even mounting posts.

This is our 4x4 chargepoint set up. You can see it has a *little* protection above but not much. It’s been fine in the deluge of rain up here in NY.

Uncovered and on a post. Grizzl-e Classic refurbished (comes with a 3 year warranty). Had it for two years and it threw a fault code (it would still charge but needed to be unplugged to reset it). After a couple of emails with the company (sent in a copy of the original invoice and video of the behavior), I got a tracking notification they had sent a replacement unit (which turned out to be of higher quality than the original). Received it two days later (also they paid for the return shipping charge of the defective unit). Great unit built solid for Canadian winters.

I saw on the TV News yesterday where in LA they are stealing charging wires from outdoor charging stations. One guy came out of his house to go to work and his car was unplugged and the charge wire was missing. He checked his RING video and sure enough, someone in a hoodie snatched it at about 4:30 AM.

Makes me wonder how he did not get electrocuted unless the charge wire had two male ends.

If they stole the cord that goes from the EVSE to the car, then that's only energized when the car is actively charging. If the thief disconnected it from the car first, then no electricity was flow at the time they cut the cord.

I saw the video and another one. They use insulated bolt cutters. The one guy they took the entire unit. Maybe it wasn't hard wired. My Grizzl-e has a pin that you can use a lock, but if they want it, that just slows them down a little. Mine is inside the garage.
