All in all I think the mach-e is a beautiful car, and good performance for an EV. The ride quality is total crap stock. The stereo is on the level of a Kia forte base model. These are things that are fixed with aftermarket parts.

I’ve yet to see anything in this price range that has the astetics of the Mach-e. Even more expensive EVs like rivian for instance has uneven body panel gap. I couldn’t live with that for a 80k vehicle.

Just counting the days until Lexus comes
Out with a BEV that has 300 mile range and AWD.
maybe by then, toyota EV wheels will stay on

Seriously it was one defect and Toyota resolved it right away. Enough.
Took them 6 months. I know because my Solterra was built June/July and delivered Dec 2022. I had a VIN - as I was one of the first who ordered one. After my test drive… it was underwhelmed. I was hoping for an EV RAV4 Prime buts it’s more like an EV Corolla Cross. At least they shipped it with SS 3.0 and not the poor 2.5 system that they still slap into $82K Sequoias.

Toyota has had their share of problems lately. GR86 engines are seizing up.. RAV Primes have two serious recalls.

What is it about the Mach-E GT Performance ride quality that you find “crap stock”? I actually found the ride better than most cars I test drove.

The sound system, in GTPE at least, sounds pretty good to my ears. Is it as good as the one in my Audi SQ5 Prestige? Maybe not. But is it as bad as the one in that Model Y aka glass echo chamber? No.

It could be that Ford removed the acoustic laminated glass in my 22s and there was an issue in my 21.

It happens right around 60mph over the driver side mirror. It's very apparent. The EV6 and Ioniq 5 are quiet by comparison.
I don't notice it in my 21, but I'm also 3/4 deaf in my left ear, so.. lucky me?

I won't knock you for trying something new, but i have to admit i did find the video a bit complain-ey.
You spend a good deal of time talking about issues with models you don't have (suspension on non-gtpe versions), issues that don't really exist anymore (junction box, it isn't a ticking time bomb, if it is on the verge of failing, you still have a perfectly functional car. just with a warning if it is failing), or issues you don't have (hatch hitting your garage door, or at least it sounded to me like this hasn't happened to you)

Finallly, you say your new car you don't want a first year. So of course most of these issues will be resolved, since most of the issues you complained about are specific to your car being a first year car. The video would be much better framed if you titled it "why i'm not going to be an early adopter again". Not, "why i'm selling my mach-e"

Having followed the Ioniq 5 and EV6 forums and FB groups... I'd say the ICCU problem is more prevalent than the HVBJB one but it seems quicker to replace and less "serious"

The major issue of the EV6 in the first year was all the Meridan amps blowing - due to a bad batch or something. Kia has replaced them for free.
I don't think there's any way to know how common either problem, ICCU or HVBJB, is in the general population of vehicles from the forums.

To be honest, I was being a bit sarcastic. I did test drive the KIA EV6 GT and it was just as refined than the Ford from tech standpoint if not a tad bit more. It was quickdrove really really well. I’m 6’4” so it was too short for me height wise but for anyone 6 feet and below, it’s not an issue.

However, I was commenting on the brand more than the model. I don’t know how well Kia service centers are equipped with EV technicians but given the poorly staffed Ford EV service centers, my guess is that it’s not any better.

Also, the EV6 has just entered the market didn’t it? I don’t think the car was around in 2020-2021 like the Mach E. And the video maker says that he wanted to buy an EV that’s been around for a few years. And then goes and buys a Kia EV6 so not sure what to say there. Is EV6 Kia’s first?

Also, imagine Ford MME resale value (if anyone even wants it), selling that Kia may not be any more pleasant.
eGMP platform from Hyundai Motor Group has been sold in Korea since 2021, globally sold in 2022+

Check out my b&o replacement thread for my opinion on the ford implementation.

Check out my opinion in the kw coilover as a replacement thread.

Thank you for pointing me to those threads.

1. Speaker replacement after a certain level tends to generate more placebo pleasure than reality, given that half the job is done by the environment in which the speakers are placed and played in (which you cannot change much unless you mod the entire cabin). Of course, you can choose objectively better speakers and see some gains but I doubt if the difference is substantial in your DIY project given the B&O speakers themselves aren’t bad. They’re just not powered enough but at moderate volume and with some basic eq, they’re just fine. I’m not denying that your upgrade isn’t sounding substantially better. Don’t get me wrong. I just said I have doubts that it isn’t placebo.

2. KW coil - what trim are you making your crap comment about? I doubt it is the GT PE edition. The Magneride suspension that my GT PE has great ride quality - suspension especially…so much so that it rivals some of the more luxury cars I test drove IMHO. I also drove GT and then immediately GT PE and the GT PE almost instantly felt like a different car. Heck my wife didn’t know anything and she was the first one to say how much cushier the second car feels. If you’re talking about non-GTPE trim ride quality, then that’s a completely different story.

I'd say because the HVBJB problem is more prevalent on GT trims and less so with non-GT trims... it's a numbers game. The ICCU problem happens across all E-GMP models - GV60, EV6, Ioniq 5 and all trims.

Not true. While that’s the way it’s supposed to work, it doesn’t always. We continue to have reports of Stop Safely Now HVBJB failures on this forum. In addition, we see HVBJB failures across all model years and trims. And we’re still having reports of repeated HVBJB failures including on the new HVBJBs. Are the failures weighted towards the GT? Yes, of course they are but they do not hold a monopoly on the failures. That’s also a design failure on ford’s part. Ford took the cheap way out.

Right after I picked up my GT PE.. I test drove a 22 ID.4 AWD (it was my order I had to visit in person and decline) and was surprised at how supple and non-stiff non-bouncy the suspension was.

Since then I've test driven many EVs and cars with vastly better suspension... BMW iX, Lyriq, EV6, Ioniq 5, i4, e-tron, Lightning. Unbridled is a great mode for sporty driving but too stiff for daily driving. I have 6 speed bumps exiting my HOA and another 4+ in my downtown parking garage. That mode was brutal.

The EV6 GT is a great choice for a replacement. It's wickedly fast. The ride quality is compliant. It handles very well compared to the floaty mushiness of the Ioniq 5. Lane centering and HDA are amazing. It's not for me... I gave up the i4 because of the lack of space and the EV6 has the exact same space.

I found that EV6 had substantially more room in the rear row than the i4, cargo space with seats up was similar enough for me.

Super interesting observation!

Like I said above, EV6 drove absolutely great. If it were 5 inches taller I’d have a hard time rejecting it (I’d still reject it for it is a Kia…it’s kind of a fool me once situation for me with Kia).

However I disagree with the Unbridled mode part of your comment, not because it is inaccurate (it’s actually on point) but because you’re bringing that mode into a suspension discussion as it’s perhaps THE least cushy and thus THE most dynamic (stiff) mode GTPE has to feel and take sharp corners, quick acceleration off the apex and meet that road. For this experience, You don’t want a dampened cushy “did you pack enough PBJ sandwiches in the trunk for the family” picnic mode suspension :)

Don’t tempt me to go drive more of those cars you listed.
