It was changed for 2023. There's no reason to believe every 2023 doesn't have the new design.
Another 2023 GT on the dealer's lot had a frunk with a smooth tub. The build date on that one was late 12/2022

As someone else pointed out it's the same slot the Maverick has, you can google Ford Maverick console slot or cupholder...there's all sorts of things you could 3d print to put in there:

Apparently it's called a FITS slot (Ford Integrated Tether System):

Maverick forum has a whole section on the boards for things they are doing with it.

I had to go take a look at mine after seeing this post. Ford simplified the tub down to a single mold.

Picking up about 25lbs of Lobster tonight, that goes right into the frunk, no seafood smell!
Exactly. And I add the ice so I can do the rest of my shopping without having to rush.

I feel like this is one of the smartest things any manufacturer of anything has ever done- make accessories universal for all products.

Something I wish water bottle makers would do. Why does Hydroflask need three different (but very similar) lid types?

I cannot for the life of me understand why we are 3 model years into production, and they still have not added this! It's insane that you we literally have to remove multiple panels just to get access to it, particularly when they teased us with the + and - symbols directly above those panels, which is exactly where folks are drilling them out to create access.
Probably cost and no demand. Rivian had it then got rid of it.

Demand for what exactly??? If they are building the car, built it right from the start. It's like saying we built you a car that requires you to remove 2 panels just to add window washer fluid, and we put a convenient washer fluid symbol on those panels... why? Because we did... who knows what we were thinking.?‍♂

That's exactly what they did with the 12v battery service location.

I can understand they probably have a bunch of parts in stock that they will want to use up with the crappy design, but you would assume someone at Ford looked at this, scratched their head for a bit and said, perhaps we should redesign this part for the next production run ehh? I mean this thread is about the new frunk tub redesign, so it's not like they aren't getting through legacy parts. I doubt very much someone at Ford ordered 4 times more panels than frunk tubs... and it's far more likely they just didn't care enough to update the design of the existing panels to provide 12v access points where they have already obviously labeled them.

Anyway... here's to hoping someone uses a bit of common sense and updates this design, because it's absurd!!

Mine was build the beginning of April and is the same. I noticed it but never thought much of it, I have only ever use the frank once.

Hey everyone! I am a new MME owner, new to the forum and THIS is my first post!! I purchased a 2023 GT (Standard/Non-Performance) this week and noticed that the frunk had a slightly different design compared to other Mach-E's I looked at. The key differences are that there are raised ridges on the bottom, two drainage ports and, if you look at the upper rear portion of the well, you'll see two gaps that look like a place to attach an accessory.
Looks like they also have less retainer screws than previous ones and no hidden screws
FYI - The build date on my car is 06/06/2023

I'd be interested to hear if anyone knows what these are for?
